Year 11 Students Attend RYDA Road Safety Education Program
On the 2nd of June, Year 11 students took part in the RYDA Road Safety Education Program, a full-day event designed to help young people become safer drivers and passengers. Through interactive workshops and engaging presentations, students explored real-life scenarios, heard from road crash survivors, and learned valuable strategies for making safe decisions on the road.
The excursion was organised by Mrs Anna Anetoudis, with Ms Helen Bourozikas, Ms Kathleen Kennedy, and Ms Rachel Liu also in attendance supporting students throughout the day. It was a highly worthwhile experience that encouraged students to reflect on their responsibilities behind the wheel and the impact of their choices.
We thank all staff and students for their active participation in this important program.
Student reflections:
On June 2nd we attended the RYDA driving program to help us become educated on how we can stay safe on the roads and how our choices we make on the roads can impact not just our lives, but everyone else on the roads. We learnt how things like our emotions and music can affect the speed we go on the road and what type of drivers we are by taking a ‘driver profile quiz’. My highlight of the day was when we spoke to a car crash survivor ‘Anat’ and had to solve what went wrong the day of her crash. Her story was extremely inspirational but also a good reminder that we all need to be more aware of what going on around us. Mia A
At the RYDA workshop, the year-level and I were involved in a range of activities in order to teach us how to be not only safe road users and drivers, but also safe passengers and responsible car owners in the future. We found out how to chose a car with a high safety rating, some techniques to stay calm when in control of a car and what circumstances can lead to a dangerous crash. Tom B
