Industry Immersion- BoM

Bureau of Meteorology Industry Immersion

Thanks to our ongoing partnership with Monash Tech School, a group of our curious and committed students recently took part in a unique Industry Immersion experience with the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) — Australia’s national weather, climate and water agency.

Held at the Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre in Broadmeadows, this immersive program offered students a behind-the-scenes look at the vital work of meteorologists, hydrologists, climate scientists and data analysts. Students explored how BoM monitors and forecasts weather patterns, communicates severe weather warnings, and contributes to climate research — all while gaining real-world insights into how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills are applied in critical, everyday contexts.

Throughout the program, students worked in teams to model weather scenarios, analyse climate data, and consider how forecasting helps keep communities safe. They also heard directly from professionals working in the field, learning about the diverse career pathways available within the Bureau and the study options that can lead there.

A huge thank you to Monash Tech School and the Bureau of Meteorology for providing such a valuable learning opportunity, and an especially big thank you to our wonderful educator Melissa Mandarino for accompanying the students and supporting them throughout this unique experience!
