Science – Term 2
As 2nd Term comes to an end the Science area have been delving into new areas of Science for the students.
Our Year 7 students have had an opportunity to look at the internal structures of flathead, squid and octopus to enhance the Classification unit. Many students showed enthusiasm while some may have been a bit squeamish.
The Year 8 students have been busy looking at the different components of the microscope and how to use it. They then used their expertise and viewed different cells of plants and compared the structures of the Elodea, Banana, Onion and Celery. Looking at the structures of the leaf under the microscope showed them the Stomata.
Year 9 students have been looking at the Nervous and Endocrine Systems. Dissecting Brains then researching a disease that can affect the systems and this allowed many different presentations consolidating their knowledge.
Year 9 Earth and Space class have been very busy creating Volcano’s while discussing how they were formed and the type of volcano.
Year 9 Forensics have been creating Crime Scene Dioramas. They have learnt about different components of forensics where they use their analytical skills to create the perfect crime scene.
Year 10 students in Psychology have looked at different components of the course. One component was looking at the Brain lobes. In Physics the students have been looking at acceleration and creating Crash Carts with eggs being the passengers.
Year 11 Biology have dissected rats to compare organs to humans. Year 11 Chemistry made smells otherwise called Esters, Year 11 Psychology dissected Brains, Year 11 Physics have been looking at Circuits and Electricity.
Year 12 Science students are flying through the content, finishing Unit 3 and now are moving into Unit 4.
Well done for all students in Science, challenging themselves in areas that they may not have known about before but are willing to excel in a new area.
