Karoo Parents Association (KPA)

An update from the KPA
The Karoo Parents Association has had a busy term so far, with two online meetings and plenty of successful events held this term!
Early in the term, the committee organised the Mother’s Day stalls, selling low-cost gifts to students with all 1300 items sold out! This event is run with a community focus, not fundraising, so that all students have access to purchase low-cost gifts for their special person. Additionally, on the Friday prior to Mother’s Day the KPA ran the Mother’s and Special persons breakfast where delicious pastries and other sweet treats were served to the wider community. Students invited their special people over to classrooms for some 1:1 time sharing a range of fun activities and this was a lovely way to celebrate. Thanks to our generous donors Woolworths for the yummy treats as well as Crown Concepts for their gifts that made our raffle prizes. Big thanks to Kristy Khouri for her organisation leading up to the event and staff from the school who pitched in to help out on the day.
Shortly after that, the KPA worked to extend students’ thanks towards the Education Support staff on Education Support Appreciation Day – we have 37 of these unsung heroes in our school! Special gifts were put together and presented to the Education Support staff by relevant students and these were well-received.
Behind the scenes, one of our dedicated committee members Amanda Thorne has been leading a small team to organise all the donated second-hand clothing and lost property items. Our stall earlier this week was another success, with many parents taking the opportunity to grab a bargain. The stalls now take place in the second-hand uniform area, which is Room 22 (near the Mandarin and Media rooms). Keep your eye on the newsletter for future dates when the stall will be open and please keep in mind that all good-condition second-hand uniforms can be donated at anytime via the office.
On a fundraising front, the KPA team (led by hard-working Sarah Elliott) raised over $2000 by selling snags on Election Day. This was a mammoth effort and we are grateful for the helpers who served the community that day in early May.
Further on a fundraising note is the major fundraiser for 2025 which will be the ‘Karoo Karnival’ – save the date for a twilight event on Friday 7 November from 1pm! The KPA is hard at work helping to contact potential sponsors as well as planning food options and fun activities for the evening.
Planning for Term 3 events is already underway. Items to sell at the Father’s Day stalls have already been ordered. A fun Father’s and Special Persons breakfast will be on Friday 5 September – watch out for an invitation from your children to attend this morning event. The school will also be running the annual Coin Challenge - be sure to start saving your coins so that your child’s class can be in the running to win a special prize for the longest line of coins!
Keep your eyes on Compass, the newsletter and of course, join our KPA Community Facebook page to make sure you hear all the latest updates for happenings around the school!
