STEM News

What a wonderful term it has been in STEM! Students across all year levels have been exploring the sky, the seasons, and how these natural patterns impact life on Earth.

Foundation students have been building their independence by using Seesaw to complete activities about weather and seasons, focusing on how different conditions affect animals.

Year 1/2 students have also been learning about the seasons and how landscapes change over time. They explored how the Sun and Moon move through the day and night, and brought this to life in Minecraft by creating seasonal landscapes and observing how plants and animals respond, linking their learning to Indigenous seasonal knowledge.

Year 3/4 students investigated the Earth, Moon, and Sun system and their positions in space. They experimented with sundials to learn how the Sun’s position can be used to tell time and created posters showing how the Sun’s energy impacts life on Earth.

Meanwhile, our Year 5/6 students explored our solar system, designing incredibly detailed and accurately scaled Minecraft Education models to showcase their knowledge of planets, orbits, and scale.

During lunchtime, our brilliant STEM leaders, William and Nam, held the extremely popular STEM club. They ran a fantastic variety of activities including origami, straw rockets, coding and paper plane competitions! It was amazing to see so many students of all ages engaged and excited about science, technology, and creative problem-solving!

The new Mod 5 building is ready, and the specialists are moving in! Starting next term, Mandarin, Visual Arts, and STEM will all have brand-new learning spaces. These updated rooms are designed to support hands-on, creative, and collaborative learning, and we can’t wait to see the amazing things students will create, explore, and achieve in them!
