STAGE 2 CLASS NEWS
Stage 2 have been learning about Ned Kelly as part of their English studies. We have had interesting discussions about his life choices and whether Ned Kelly was actually a hero or villain. The thoughtful ideas and insightful questions from the children during our discussions have impressed Mrs Dunham and Mrs Townsend. The text ‘Ned Kelly and the Green Sash’ and our online research has also introduced new vocabulary and explained many interesting facts about this famous outlaw such as:
- Even though Ned Kelly had 32 000 signatures opposing his hanging on his petition, he was still hung. - Frank
- Before Ned Kelly became a notorious bushranger, he saved a young man (Richard) from drowning in a creek. In return for his gallantry, he was given a green sash by Richard’s parents. - Izzy
- After Daniel and Ned Kelly killed three traps (police), they were known as outlaws. - Talon
- As soon as Ned Kelly joined the Kelly gang, he was forced to go into hiding. - Legsie
- Since Ned Kelly’s parents were convicts from Ireland, they were forced into a ramshackle hut. - Greyson
- Until Ned Kelly bathed, his skin remained a shade of green. - Billie
The Bilbies and the Wombats have been showing their creative side through the completion of a number of artworks which are now proudly on display in our classrooms. Both our Autumn Leaves and Frill-neck Lizard artworks were started while we were at Thalgarrah. Our Autumn Leaves reflect the beautiful season we have here in Armidale each year.
Our Frill-Neck Lizards artworks were created using a variety of textures and materials.
The students have gained a lot of knowledge and skill from our weekly athletics lessons with Mr Stone. This week the students went through the finer techniques of high jump.
All the students have displayed great perseverance and are all feeling a lot more confident in their field events as we approach our school athletics carnival.
This week the children will receive their PAX reward for achieving 25 points on their Stage chart. The children chose a movie and snacks for their reward. The movie we will view is ‘YES day’, which will occur on Thursday afternoon. We have asked the children to bring in a small snack to eat while they are watching the movie.
Lastly, on Friday the children were given printed notes about their ‘Evening with ACOS’ costumes for next term.
- The Wombats have been asked to purchase a short-sleeve round-neck white shirt which will be decorated in ‘zombie-style’. If possible, we would like these shirts by the END OF TERM please. This enables Mrs Clarke to decorate them for us over the holidays. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Clarke for giving up her time and effort to do this for us. We are very lucky to have such a creative person to help out!
- The Bilbies have been asked to purchase a long-sleeved round neck black shirt.
This does not have to be brought to school however we will have a dress rehearsal next term when they need to bring it. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mrs Townsend. Thank you for your cooperation regarding this matter.
