From the Principal's Desk

Week 8
Last Friday we said goodbye to Emma Dunne as the President of the P&C. We would like to thank Emma for all she has done for our school and students over the years.
We would like to congratulate Phoebe Bayerlein on becoming the new P&C President.
We have also farewelled Chris from MGPS. Chris has decided to take on a new adventure with PLC. We wish Chris all the best and he has big shoes to fill. DoE will endeavour to fill his position ASAP.
Uniforms
As I mentioned at the week 6 assembly, I have noticed a number of students are coming to school out of uniform. The school has a compulsory uniform approved by the P&C and all students are expected to attend school each day in uniform. We understand that with the wet weather it has been hard to get things dry, however here at MGPS we pride ourselves on wearing our uniform to be part of a team, a great team! If you are having trouble with finding uniform or with your child not wanting to wear uniform, please feel free to contact me for assistance.
Please clearly label all articles of clothing. This will ensure that all items can be returned to your child.

Semester 1 Reports
This semester, Martin’s Gully is introducing updated school reports.
The new format has been developed by the NSW Department of Education in response to feedback from parents and educators to make reports easier to read and understand.
Your child’s report will still show their progress across all subject areas which were explained in detail in all term letters.
Teacher comments will appear in English, Mathematics and the general comment section, in line with department policy. We will also continue to report on social values and emotional statements related to PAX, You Can Do It and Zones of Regulation.
The general comment for Kindergarten also covers all other Key Learning Areas including, Creative Arts, History and Geography, PDHPE, and Science and Technology.
A new achievement scale and descriptions are included to provide a clearer picture of your child’s progress.
Our school promotes high expectations, explicit and evidence-informed teaching to create optimal learning environments where all students are challenged and engaged to achieve their educational potential including opportunities for High Potential Students.
If your child has been identified as High Potential or Gifted, you’ll see how they’re participating in advanced learning opportunities across all four domains, including Physical, Social and Emotional, Creative and Intellectual. These activities include Da vinci Decathlon, Dance group, Choir, Creative Arts camps, Debating, Tree Troff, Kid’s Literature Quiz, Multicultural Public Speaking, Drama workshops and Spelling. We also have detailed information about PSSA sports, which now includes three tiers of representation beyond just school-level sports.
We welcome your feedback or any questions you may have about the new report format. Thank you for being a part of our school community.
Reports will go out at the end of week 9.
Athletics Carnival
Our K-6 Athletics carnival is on Friday 20 June. Students will travel by bus to Harris Park in the morning and take part in track races and novelty events for K-2. Field events will be held at school the following Tuesday for students turning 8 and up. The P&C will be running a canteen on the day and we always love to see parent helpers for our time keepers.
Visual Arts Camp
Last week Lucinda, Katie, Abbie and Zara had a fabulous time at the "Colour the Earth" Stage 3 Visual Arts Camp at Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre as part of the regions High Potential and Gifted Education program. Their artwork they created is outstanding.
Sporting News
Last Friday our PSSA Combined football (soccer) team competed in the zone knockout Gala day. It was a great day getting to join with other schools to play from across Armidale.
On Thursday our Cross Country runners ran at Coolah in the usual freezing conditions. Congratulations to all who competed. It is a very hard track! Congratulations to Nixon who came 4th and is off to State representing the Northwest.
Good luck to Nixon, Beau Matthew and Olivia who are all attending the PSSA Northwest touch trials next week in Inverell. Play hard, play fair and have fun!
Enrolments for 2026
Enrolments for 2026 are open. Please complete an online application or come into the office for a paper copy. Notification of successful Kindergarten placement offers will go out at the end of term 3 for all in zone, out of zone and sibling applications.
All students in zone will receive an offer.
Our PAX word of the fortnight is UPSTANDER.
An upstander is a person who speaks or acts in support of an individual or cause, particularly someone who intervenes on behalf of a person who is being treated unkindly. Here is a link to help discuss being an Upstander in the online world.
Have a great week!
