Textiles

Year 7

Our amazing Year 7s have completed their Textiles journey this semester, designing and creating a sustainable cushion or reuseable bag that reflects both creativity and care for the planet. The focus was on pattern design and sustainability, with students experimenting with tie-dye, block printing, and digital embroidery to bring their ideas to life.

Many students drew inspiration from biomimicry, exploring how nature’s patterns, like leaves, shells, and feathers, can influence thoughtful design. Others embraced their own unique style, creating cute, expressive motifs that reflect their personality and spark joy.

Through this project, students developed essential textile skills, including the sewing machine, while making conscious choices about materials and impact. Their finished cushions are not just functional, each one is a one-of-a-kind expression of innovation, imagination, and purpose.

We’re incredibly proud of their efforts, what a brilliant start to their design journey!

VCE Product Design and Technologies

Our VCE Product Design and Technologies (Textiles) students have wrapped up Unit 1 with a fantastic real-world design challenge, creating a functional and personalised bag for a teacher of their choice here at school.

From start to finish, this project mirrored a professional design process. Students conducted interviews with their teacher clients, identifying needs, constraints and considerations, then moved through ideation, prototyping, and production stages. The final outcomes are not only functional, but also thoughtfully crafted to reflect each teacher’s personality and purpose.

These impressive bags will be showcased at our upcoming Subject Expo Evening, where the design journey and final products will be proudly on display. Final photos of the bags will also feature in the next edition of the newsletter, watch this space!

We’re incredibly proud of the effort, empathy and craftsmanship our students have demonstrated.

Across our textiles classes, students have been busy bringing wire, fabric, and creativity to life through a beautiful wire sculpture flower project, now proudly on display in our reception area.

Students from Year 7, Year 9 and the Textiles Club have all contributed to this growing bouquet, showcasing their skills in shaping, wrapping, and embellishing wire to form intricate and expressive flowers. With more blooms still in production, the display continues to grow each week!

What makes this project extra special is the personal touch, some petals are embroidered or printed with students’ initials, creating a sense of connection, ownership, and community spirit. It’s a shared piece that reflects both individuality and collaboration, and we couldn’t be prouder of the creativity on show.
