School-wide Positive Behaviour Support

We continue to implement Classroom systems as part of School Wide Positive Behaviours at Gisborne Secondary College, which are based on the Universal Supports: Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS).
On the Pupil free day (Tuesday 17th June 2025) all staff undertook professional development in areas 1 to 5 of the Positive Classroom Management Strategies. On the student free day that will take place on Wednesday 27th August 2025, among other activities, staff will take part in a professional development session looking at areas 6 to 8 of the Positive Classroom Management Strategies.
Dolly’s Dream Workshop
On 1st August 2025, all Year 8 students at Gisborne Secondary College will be undertaking a full day workshop delivered by Dolly’s Dream, a charity set up to start a nationwide conversation following the tragic death of Kate and Tick Everett’s daughter Dolly, because of the devasting effects of bullying.
The aim of Dolly's Dream school workshops is to equip children and young people with the tools to navigate mental health challenges, digital safety, and support systems. By encouraging kindness, empathy, and self-worth, we empower participants to build safer, more supportive communities.
The workshop is tailored to meet the needs of the specific age groups and participants, ensuring content is relevant, appropriate and engaging. Participants are supported to connect and share their own experiences in honest conversations.
Some of themes that will be explored include:
- Recognising the significance of empathy in building relationships
- Understanding the distinction between playful banter and harmful bullying behaviours
- Discussing positive and negative habits online
- Identifying personal strengths and unique qualities that contribute to self-worth.
As part of our continued celebration of success, the top 5 merit achievers in Semester 1 from each year level received an adult pass for MRSC Leisure Centres! We would like to thank MRSC Leisure Centres for this generous donation to the College.
Congratulations to them all for displaying the College values of Respect, Achievement, Innovation and Diversity and being recognised for supporting peers, teams and the wider community.
