Write a book in a day
On Wednesday 11th of June we had over 20 students from year 7-9 participate in a Write A Book In A Day Incursion. Write a book in a day is a fun and creative team writing activity that involves collaborative team effort, where students plan, write and illustrate a book in one day.
Students were split into 3 groups, given a unique set of parameters and a space for their group to work for the day. Our teams all hit the ground running at 8:50am and by 2:55pm we had 3 written and illustrated books produced. They should all be very proud of themselves, they worked hard, organised themselves, listened to each other's ideas and really worked well as a team.
The parameters each were given to include in their story were:
- 2 main human characters
- 2 non human character
- Some identifiable Torquay content
- Needs to be a mystery
- 5 random words: Shiver, Determined, Euphoric, Vibrant & beach
The books are all in the library for everyone to enjoy and below are the links to each story:
Book Bash Incursions
We were lucky to be able to take part in some free writing workshops through the State Library of Victoria in collaboration with the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge. The ‘Book Bash’ took place over 3 days via zoom to schools around Victoria with Authors holding workshops on different parts of creative writing.
We had Anh Do talking to students about character building and looking around ourselves and everyday life for story ideas. We then had Amelia Mellor showing us how to start and write Historical Fiction, including researching areas and their history.
The students walked away with some great tips for their creative writing.
Lunchtime Activities
The library has been busy with this cold weather at breaktimes.
Trivia on Friday has been going strong, we have had some fun themed days and some healthy competition. If you would like to join next term get your teams ready!
We have also been running some workshops during lunch, paper craft was popular, we had many paper cranes, lucky stars and bookmarks made. The following week we had a make a pet rock workshop which was also lots of fun and great to see some creative rocks being made.
