Year 8 SURF

In SURF class, 8D students have been learning about their character strengths—the positive traits that help us be our best selves.

Year 10 Studio Arts

Students in Year 10 Studio Art have been exploring the significant environmental impact of humans on the natural world through the art form of sculpture.

Experimenting with and applying a range of methods students have worked to conceptually express the tension between waste materials and the balance in the oceans.

Students have repurposed reclaimed plastics from the school environment and considered using low impact materials during this task. Their work ‘Tidelines’ will be exhibited at Ashmore Arts during the Surf Coast Arts Trail 2025.

Year 10 Getting Ready for Work

Year 10 Students Connect with Local Businesses

Throughout Term 2, our Year 10 students have been stepping beyond the classroom on Wednesday afternoons to meet with local business owners and learn firsthand about their entrepreneurial journeys.

These valuable visits have given students insight into how local businesses were built, the challenges and successes along the way, and what employers are looking for in young people entering the workforce. Discussions also covered areas of growth, interest, and career pathways relevant to our students' futures.

We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to:

· Joel from Zealy Bay Sourdough

· Brooke and Kevin from Feed Me Surfcoast

· Matt from Bones MMA

· The team at Maple Bakery (Term 1)

· Molly and Bec from Bunnings

A big thank you to all our local businesses for generously giving their time and sharing their stories. Your support makes a real difference to our students’ learning and aspirations.

Year 10 Work Experience

Teacher (Getting ready for work): Ms Kath Klopsteins

Careers Advisor: Mr Simon Gale

In Week 11, our Year 10 students embraced the opportunity to step into the world of work through a week-long work experience program. This was a chance to explore potential career paths, develop practical skills, and gain insight into real-life workplaces.

We’re incredibly grateful to our local community for warmly welcoming and supporting our students during this valuable experience.

Here’s a snapshot of just a few of the wonderful placements:

· Jae M. at Torquay Animal House, alongside Nyah

· Stella B., Paisley M., and Lucie G. at Feed Me Surfcoast, supervised by the lovely Ally

· Sam F. at RACV Golf Club in the Pro Shop with Toby and Fletcher – who mentioned they were learning golf tips from Sam!

A huge thank you to all the businesses and mentors involved. Your generosity and guidance help shape the future for our students in the most meaningful ways.

Big thanks to Mr Simon Gale for pulling together such a successful program for our 90+ Year 10 students. His behind-the-scenes work made it all happen!

Media @ SCSC: A Stellar Semester One!

What an incredible first semester it's been for Media students at Surf Coast Secondary! We've dived headfirst into the exciting world of media, exploring various forms and developing practical skills.

A major highlight was our ACMI Top Screen 2025 excursion. This unique opportunity allowed us to view the exceptional work of Victoria’s next generation of filmmakers, offering invaluable insights and inspiration.

Beyond the big screen, students sharpened their photographic eye with walking photography tours of Torquay and Geelong. These excursions encouraged unique perspectives and honed composition skills, capturing the beauty of our local environment.

Back in the classroom, creativity flourished as students developed a diverse range of media products, including captivating music videos and compelling photography portfolios. These hands-on projects allowed them to apply knowledge and bring their creative visions to life.

Congratulations to all our Media students on a fantastic and productive semester! We've seen incredible growth in skills, confidence, and creative expression, and we can't wait to see what's next!
