Year Seven-Nine

Coaching Parade Campus

Year 7-9

The term has flown by, and it’s hard to believe we are already in the final two weeks of the school year. In Week 10, all students took part in our transition program, where they spent time in their new classes and met their 2026 teachers and classmates.

Throughout the year, many students have shown dedication to their learning and made excellent progress across a range of subjects. To celebrate their achievements, the school has organised a number of end-of-year events. Our Year 9 students will enjoy a fun day out at Funfields Theme Park. This week they will celebrate with their graduation ceremony and formal dinner—with some dancing to finish the night.

This has been an enjoyable and rewarding year for our students, with many beginning to recognise the value of hard work and the importance of focusing on their future pathways. We wish all families a joyful festive season and a happy, prosperous New Year.

Mandarin Update

大家好!

Students in Years 7–9 at Coaching Parade are now concluding their first year of Mandarin, marking the end of an engaging and productive year of language learning.

Throughout Term 4, students explored vocabulary and sentence structures related to hobbies and activities. They developed their ability to ask and respond to questions about personal interests, express likes and dislikes, and make plans by using phrases such as “我们去看电影吧” (“Let’s go to the movies”). This unit culminated in students creating their own comic strips, showcasing the language they had acquired.

Students continued their Term 4 learning by studying expressions related to food and drink, including how to articulate their preferences and compare the flavours of various items. This unit culminated in an assessment of their knowledge using the learning platform Education Perfect.

To conclude the year, Mandarin classes engaged students in a wide variety of cultural activities and games. Students were introduced to 剪纸 (jiǎnzhǐ), the traditional Chinese art of paper cutting, a practice originating as early as the 2nd century CE. They also had the opportunity to learn and play the Chinese board game 围棋 (wéiqí), also known by it's Japanese name “Go,” which is considered the one of the world’s oldest board games.

We look forward to seeing our Year 7 and Year 8 students continue to expand their Mandarin language skills in 2026.

AFL clinic

North Melbourne Visits Saltwater College!

What an fantastic AFL session for our Year 7, 8 and 9 students on Tuesday the 2nd December.

We had the privilege of hosting players from the North Melbourne Football Club, who ran a high-energy AFL clinic right here at Saltwater College.

Students had the chance to build their skills, learn new techniques and get tips directly from elite athletes. The atmosphere on the field was buzzing, and it was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and participation.

A huge thank you to the North Melbourne team for giving our students such a memorable experience.

Thank you very much to Mrs Kindtner, Mr Anderson and Ms Clark for making this session such a success.
