Principal Reflections

Dear Parents and Carers,
Canberra Excursion Success
I am delighted to share that our Year 6 Canberra Excursion last week was a tremendous success! This experience provided our students with valuable opportunities to explore our nation’s capital, deepen their understanding of Australia’s history, and engage with key institutions such as Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial.
Throughout the excursion, our students demonstrated exemplary behaviour, curiosity, and enthusiasm, embodying the values of our school. They asked insightful questions, participated actively, and represented our community with pride.
A special thank you to our dedicated staff who accompanied the students and ensured the trip was both educational and enjoyable. Your commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences is greatly appreciated.
To our parents and guardians, thank you for your support in preparing your children for this adventure. It is through your encouragement and trust that such experiences are made possible.
Our Year 6 students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The sites they visited included:
- The Australian War Memorial
- Parliament House
- Museum of Australian Democracy
- Australian Electoral Commission Education Centre
- Australian Institute of Sport
- National Capital Exhibition
- National Arboretum
- Questacon
- National Museum of Australia
- National Dinosaur Museum
- iPlay and Laser Tag Centre
- Mount Ainslie Lookout
- Geoscience
The memories and lessons from this excursion will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our Year 6 students as they prepare for High School. I was so proud of our students on the excursion that the school has purchased pizza for them to enjoy a special lunch together tomorrow.
PACER Rebate for Canberra Excursion
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the Canberra excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $67.50 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. As a school, we factored in this $67.50 and pitched in $70.20 to provide families with a reduction of $137.70 per student on the total cost of the excursion.
Year 5 Science Work
Year 5 students have been exploring how food and fibre are produced, managed and transformed into sustainable products. To showcase their knowledge, students then created detailed dioramas or online presentations that outline the production process and emphasise of the sustainable practices.
Social Media Ban - eSafety Commissioner Advice
The eSafety Commissioner has published a helpful Social Media Age Restrictions Hub. This includes advice for young people, families, and educators. As the social media age restrictions take effect on the 10th December, we encourage you to explore this valuable online resource.
Until next week,
Keep Smiling,
Alison Hatton
