Assessment and Reporting at SMCM

At SMCM, we value our partnership with families in supporting student learning and celebrating achievements. As we approach the midpoint of the academic year, we are excited to share important information about your child’s progress.

What You Need to Know About Student Reports

What are student progression reports?

These reports provide a snapshot of your child’s learning growth and progression against the Victorian Curriculum and Religious Education Framework. They offer valuable insights into your child’s academic journey.

When will you receive the reports?

All students will receive a printed copy of their Semester One Progression Report on Monday 30th June.

What do the reports include?

  • A progression point for each curriculum area taught this semester in alignment with the Achievement Standards of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0.
  • Clear communication about your child’s progress since the last report, including whether they are meeting the expected standards for this time of year.
  • A five-point scale to measure student achievement:
    • “At the standard” indicates that your child is demonstrating learning consistent with expectations for their year level.
    • “Above” or “Well above the standard” indicates your child is working beyond typical year-level expectations.
    • “Below” or “Well below the standard” indicates that your child is demonstrating that they are on the way to a standard expected of students at this time of the year. However, they have not yet consistently demonstrated learning that is at the standard expected.
  • Mathematics is the only subject that will have a separate page due to changes to reporting. A detailed overview of these changes were presented in the Mathematics Information Evening earlier this term and in last fortnight's issue of the newsletter.

What information is used by schools to complete semester reports?

The information in your child’s Progression Report is supported by a range of work samples throughout the semester. This includes post-tests, the work samples, anecdotal notes and a range of other forms of assessment.

Throughout the semester, we also use Online Learning Logs (OLLs) on Seesaw and organise Learning Conversations to share feedback about your child’s learning and progress. In saying that, families are encouraged to communicate with their child’s homegroup teacher to discuss learning progress at any time throughout the year.

Channels of Communication with Staff

Staff at SMCM may use Seesaw as a platform to share important announcements with families. However, staff are not directed to regularly monitor or respond to messages via Seesaw messages.

If you need to contact your child's teacher, please either (i) speak to them in person before or after school or (ii) contact them via their email address.

We will endeavour to respond to emails within 48 hours. Of course, if it is a matter of urgency, please contact our school office and we can redirect the message to the appropriate personnel.

For your convenience, below is a list of our staff email addresses.

What's Happening in Art?

The Foundation students have been exploring the Art Principle of movement. They have been listening to music, considering how this may make them feel and then expressing this using a range of lines, shapes and colours.

Check out some of the fun and amazing art pieces that have been created:

Golden Child Update

Congratulations Johnny from Year 3 Courage!

It was an absolute pleasure listening to and witnessing Johnny, through perseverance and determination, recently earn the title of Golden Child by sharing his knowledge of all the Stem Masters.

Congratulations Johnny on such a wonderful achievement.

To earn the title of Golden Child, students must earn masters in and be able to name facts about: The planets, rainbows, bones, the solar system, clouds, the mouth, birds, towers, lightning and thunder and all 118 elements of the Periodic Table.

A huge achievement!

STEM Masters - Term 2, Week 5-6

Golden Children earn a star for every student they assist to earn a new master. The top two Golden children with the most stars at the end of year receive prizes. This is the current leaderboard:

Louis 6 Stars      Johnny: 4 Stars      Joshua & Sarah: 2 Stars     Jonaz & Thiviksha: No stars (yet!)
