One of the highlights of our school week is Monday Madness. Every Monday morning, our Principal Team organise an active and fun way to start the week. It is also one of the ways in which we enable our students to build their feeling of connection to Greenhills. The photos show last week where we had lots of students enjoying the morning with some chalk art. Other favourites include running laps around our tigerturf as part of the Meruka Cup. We are also looking forward to some of our Year 5/6 Action Team leaders sharing their ideas and helping to run our Monday Madness!
On Monday, the Prep kids were all smiles as they welcomed their grandparents and special people into the classroom! They loved showing off their favourite books, sharing their hard work, and giving a little glimpse into life at school. Together, we read the hilarious book The Grinny Granny Donkey, did some colouring in together, and enjoyed a yummy morning tea (with lots of tasty treats!). To finish, the Preps sang their hearts out with “Skidamarink” to show just how much they love their special person. It was such a sweet and happy morning!
Our assemblies every second Friday are also a real highlight and a wonderful forum to see and hear about some of the strengths of our school. Last week we had an awesome singing performance by Chanelle, Isabella and Grace and in a few weeks our school choir will also be performing.
This year we have organised all our Year 6’s to host an assembly. This initiative is designed to promote a broader sense of leadership across this cohort and provide valuable practice and skills in speaking and listening and organisation.
Thank you to Lynsey Barrett our staff member who works to supports our students with organising and running their assemblies.
Our oval is taking much longer than expected to be ready. Our plans were for it to be ready this term, but it will need some more time. I realise this is very disappointing news as we have all been waiting so long to get our oval back.
With the colder weather moving in, it means that the grass will become more dormant and potentially our oval will not be ready until Term 4. In the meantime, we will keep our Djila Djerring (gym) open at lunchtimes on a rostered basis. For this to happen I thank our staff team who are all doing additional yard duty during this time to supervise this additional space.
We will continue to work with our landscaper, and I will provide a further update when we know more.
At this time of year, we have lots of jackets, hoodies and other items being left around the yard and ending up in our lost property collection.
This is a friendly reminder to make sure that you have labelled all items of uniform that your child/ren wear.
To help manage this, some of our Year 5/6’s as part of our Actions Teams will be regularly going through the pile and sending back named items to classrooms. We also have some very dedicated parents and carers who regularly go through the pile and sort named items as well. If you ever have a spare 10 minutes, even at the end of the day when you are waiting for your child/ren, we would appreciate any help with this as well.
Don’t forget that our Junior School Council is organising our very own Big Freeze Event this Friday at 12.30pm
Members of our staff team have been asked by our JSC to nominate an amount of money to be raised for them to have a bucket of icy water tipped on them! We are asking students to bring in a gold coin donation and donate towards the staff member of their choice. I have set a target of $1* so over to you!
*Per student based on all donations across the school.
