Ryan’s Rambling

Dear Families,
Another week comes to and end, and we are now well into the latter part of the term.
It was a testament to our amazing community this morning, when one of our amazing students, Lachie, hosted the assembly. This particular student had been working incredibly hard to prepare for this morning, and needed some help from his fellow students. Respectfully, our students knew that a loud applause might have posed a problem, so they willingly changed their applause to a ‘silent applause’, just so Lachie for this week could diligently carry out his duties as host, without becoming too overwhelmed. If you were one of our parents in attendance this morning, I thank you, too, for recognizing the importance of this seemingly small, yet incredibly powerful and important gesture towards inclusion. I am so proud of our students.
On Monday, our school was subject to a routine, 4 yearly Occupational Health and Safety audit. Our primary, core work, of course, is about children, their learning and their wellbeing. In saying that, OH&S is an incredibly important operational aspect to any business or school. I am happy to let you know that our school achieved a 93.5% compliance, which is an incredibly high mark for these types of audits.
This week, Kylie and I attended the Government Schools Principal Conference, along with principal class and leadership representatives from our 1560 schools across the state. There were some very strong messages from the Department about continued excellence in both Learning and Wellbeing at our schools across our state. Whilst away, Kellie Healy and the team kept our amazing school running beautifully.
Over the last few newsletters, there has been information regarding the changes to mathematics reporting across schools. I encourage you to read the information, as in a nutshell, each child will only receive one dotted progression point for mathematics, as opposed to three. Our staff will be well equipped to discuss your child’s mathematics progression in great detail during our 3-way conferences later this term, and the written component of the report will detail all areas of mathematics.
This weekend is the long weekend, as you know. I do hope that you’re able to quarantine some family time together and do something interesting, fun and enjoyable!
Have a fantastic long weekend.
Ryan
