Yoga
Thank you to Melissa Parker for sharing her yoga knowledge with our VM students as part of their Personal Development class. At present we are covering health and wellbeing and our students embraced the skill required to balance, stretch and breathe through the yoga movements.
Tullamarine Airport Excursion
On Tuesday 13 May our Year 12 VM students toured Melbourne Airport and explored different career opportunities. They were briefed by Boarder Force staff about security and the ever-changing technology methods used. They also explained the application process and how to become a staff member.
Students also got to see how the ground crew operate and watch some flights coming in and out.
Some students were so enthusiastic about their airport experience that they are now planning their future flights.
Honouring History: VCE Students Visit Vietnam Veterans Walk
On Monday, our VCE History class, currently studying the Cold War and the Vietnam War, had the privilege of participating in a guided tour of the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk in Seymour. The tour was led by two of our respected local Vietnam Veterans, John Phoenix and John Blackwell.
This meaningful experience provided students with valuable insight into the lived experiences of Australian soldiers during the Vietnam War. John and John shared powerful stories and reflections, offering students a deeper understanding of the times, the treatment of veterans upon their return, and the broader social and political climate of the era.
In addition to personal accounts, students also learned about the significance of the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk itself—how and why it was built, and the importance of honouring those who served. The walk stands as a lasting tribute to the men and women who fought, and serves as a place of remembrance, education, and reflection for future generations.
We extend our deepest thanks to John Phoenix and John Blackwell for their time, knowledge, and generosity in sharing their stories. This experience has left a lasting impression on our students, enriching their understanding of history in a truly powerful way.
Seymour Career and Jobs Expo
The Seymour Career and Jobs Expo was held on 29 April. Our senior Special Education, VCE and VCE VM and Year 10 students attended. Seymour College students had a great time, and their feedback was very positive. Students reported that they enjoyed finding out about jobs that they hadn’t considered before and we’re grateful that they had the opportunity to meet with local employers and set up their work experience placement directly with the employer.
The Central Ranges Local Learning & Employment Network ‘Networking Challenge’ was a great additional too. A student reported after she had completed the challenge, she then had the confidence to approach other exhibitors, ask questions and talk with them about their work.
Thanks to the CRLLEN and Workforce Australia for running this event and supporting opportunities for local Seymour youth.
We hope this experience will translate into the development of networking and job seeking skills for the future.
