Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 6 of Term 2! Reaching the halfway point of Term 2 is a good moment to acknowledge the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our students, and the support of our families.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week began yesterday, 27 May, and runs through to 3 June. This important week is a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
To mark the beginning of the week, on Tuesday, 27 May, some of our Primary and Inclusive Education students participated in an engaging incursion in the Art Centre CAC titled "Meet the Rainbow Serpent." This experience provided valuable cultural learning through storytelling and connection to Country.
Our college will also take part in Wear It Yellow Day on Friday, 30 May, in support of Children’s Ground and to continue raising awareness and promoting understanding throughout our school community.
On Tuesday, 20 May, I had the privilege of attending a Wawa Tabilk Tabilk cultural immersion experience at Tabilk Winery, accompanied by teachers Mat Lovini and Jennie Gao, as well as members of the RMIT Education Team and RMIT pre-service teachers. The experience was thoughtfully led by Uncle Shane Monk and Bonnie Cavanagh.
This event forms part of Seymour College’s ongoing partnership with RMIT, which supports and encourages pre-service teachers to undertake their teaching placements in regional Victoria. The day was a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of Country and to engage meaningfully with Taungurung culture and perspectives—a vital component in developing culturally responsive teaching practice.
Next week, I will be commencing Long Service Leave and will return to the College on 1 July. During my time away, Derek Rimes will be stepping into the role of Acting Principal.
I know the school will be in excellent hands, and I’m confident the leadership team will continue to provide strong support for our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your ongoing support—I look forward to reconnecting with everyone upon my return.
Warm regards,
Debbie Oliver
