One of our Student Reporters caught up with the Head of Secondary this last week …

Mrs Moore everyone’s talking about the new building. Can you give us a bit more information about what it is going to be like when it is finished?

Mrs Moore: There's going to be so many wonderful spaces! We are planning a new science lab, a beautiful art room, four large classrooms, breakout spots for group work, relaxing spaces for students to hang out, and areas for hands-on design projects.

That sounds amazing!  We can see the foundations rising out of the ground and great progress happening each day when we come to school. Why do we need another building?

Mrs Moore: The current Secondary building will become a dedicated Year 7/8 Centre, while the new build becomes the hub for our Year 9 and 10 students. While all Secondary students will still use the specialist classrooms, this change allows each stage of learning to have its own identity and sense of belonging.  I am really excited by the addition of the new Year 9/10 Centre. It marks a big milestone having two distinct spaces within Secondary.

I can understand why you are so excited! Can you tell us what you are most looking forward to?

Mrs Moore: This project is all about community. We want our Year 9's and 10's to feel like they have a space where they are known, supported, and stretched. It is not just classrooms, it is a place where students and staff grow together.

ICAS Competition

We are delighted to inform you that Devonport Christian School will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments again this year.

What is ICAS?

ICAS is an online academic competition that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee, and Digital Technologies.

Every student who participates is celebrated and recognised with a printed certificate in each subject area, and an online results report to track development each year. Top performers are eligible for ICAS medals.

We encourage you to consider entering your children in Years 2 to 9 into ICAS this year. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your child will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision.

You may nominate and pay for your child to participate in any or all of the following competitions. Please note that Writing, Digital Technologies and Spelling Bee are not available for Year 2 students and we are not offering Spelling Bee for Year 8 and 9 students.

2026, 2027, 2028 Enrolments and Beyond

DCS Enrolments 2026-2030: What a joy it is to see the DCS community flourishing!

God continues to bless our school with strong interest from families seeking a Christ-centred education and we’re humbled to be receiving enrolment enquiries all the way through to 2030!

If you are already part of our beautiful DCS family and have younger children due to start in 2026, 2027, 2028 or beyond (or siblings for other levels including secondary), we would love to hear from you. We have already begun processing 2026 and 2027 enrolments, and we want to make sure our current families are well-supported and prioritised during this exciting season of growth.

If you have not yet completed an Enrolment Enquiry form, please go to our school website https://www.dcs.tas.edu.au/enrolments/ and click on the enrolment enquiry button to complete an enquiry form.

If you are unsure whether you have submitted an enquiry, please don’t hesitate to reach out at enrolments@dcs.tas.edu.au and we will check for you. We are here to help and we value journeying alongside you as parents in faith and learning.

As we begin welcoming new enrolments into our growing DCS family, if you know of any family, friends, or community members who may be looking for a Christ-centred, nurturing school community like DCS, we warmly invite you to connect with our Enrolments Team via the above email and communicate with us about the family you are connected with, or reach out directly to our Principal, Chad Smit. We would be delighted to walk alongside them when opportunities open for new enrolments.
