National Volunteer Week - Thank You Morning Tea

At DCS we love and appreciate the many, many community members who volunteer their time at our school. DCS Community would love to celebrate all of our amazing volunteers during National Volunteer Week.

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and is from the 19th-25th May 2025.

This special week highlights the important role of volunteers in our community.

No matter what volunteer role you have at DCS, we would love to have you join us this Friday 23rd May at 9am for a special morning tea celebrating our DCS volunteers.

AFL After School Program

After an excellent PE day with our students last term, and many of our students in the AFL holiday program,  AFL Tasmania would love to offer our students an after school program on Tuesdays, beginning Tuesday 27th May.

Program Overview

This program will run over 4 weeks, bringing AFL activities directly to your child in a comfortable and familiar setting. Delivered after school by experienced AFL staff, students will meet the AFL staff directly after the school bell, with the program commencing at 3pm. The cost is generally $55 per participant.

Key Benefits

The program is designed to be fun and engaging, with game-based activities that keep students excited. It focuses on building fundamental motor skills, ensuring that all participants develop confidence and physical capabilities. The program is also inclusive, with the ability to divide participants by gender to create a comfortable environment for everyone. Additionally, each participant will receive a football and a footy cards pack to keep, enhancing their experience beyond the program.

Casual Clothes Day - Blue Tree Project

As part of their Semester One leadership project, Emily and Nick (both Yr 8) are inviting all students to wear blue themed casual clothes (for a gold coin donation) on Wednesday 28th May, with money raised going to the Blue Tree Project. Please ensure that casual clothes are appropriate with fully enclosed shoes to provide protection.  There will also be a canteen at lunchtime for any students who are interested.

The Blue Tree Project is a movement dedicated to changing the way we approach mental health.  The blue trees are a powerful symbol of hope, connection and awareness.  Blue Trees now stand across every continent of the world, including eleven here in Tasmania.

Primary Creative Arts Afternoon

You are invited to our Primary Creative Arts Afternoon on Wednesday 28th May between 3.15pm-4.30pm.

This will be a wonderful afternoon celebrating the creativity of our primary students. There will be students playing musical instruments that they have been learning and all the art competition entries will be on display, as well as a display of some of this year’s primary artwork. Stay for a short time or stay for the whole time. We look forward to showcasing our students' varied talents.

ICAS Competition

We are delighted to inform you that Devonport Christian School will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments again this year.

What is ICAS?

ICAS is an online academic competition that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee, and Digital Technologies.

Every student who participates is celebrated and recognised with a printed certificate in each subject area, and an online results report to track development each year. Top performers are eligible for ICAS medals.

We encourage you to consider entering your children in Years 2 to 9 into ICAS this year. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your child will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision.

You may nominate and pay for your child to participate in any or all of the following competitions. Please note that Writing, Digital Technologies and Spelling Bee are not available for Year 2 students and we are not offering Spelling Bee for Year 8 and 9 students.
