Regional Cross-Country

On Wednesday 18th June, Salvadore, Alexia and Matthew competed in the Northern Metropolitan Regional Cross Country Championships held at Kilmore Race Track.

Interviews with our St Joseph the Worker Competitors are below…

Salvadore, U10 Boys 2km race

Place 51 / 70, 7.72mins

“It was really hard going through all the dirt and having loads of people in the race, but I’m still proud that I finished in a good position! It was very busy running in heavy people traffic because everyone is THAT fast and all clumped together.”

“I’m very happy with my training – I trained with my whole family so having someone with me to train with was lovely and made it easy. I would also recommend focusing on breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth if you are a beginner to running – once you have mastered that, you just have to stay consistent with your training to be successful!” – Salvadore.

Alexia, U11 Girls 3km race

Place 34 / 64, 12.47 mins

“The race was held on Kilmore Horse Racing Track so it was quite muddy, grassy and bumpy – full of holes from horse hooves. That makes conditions quite tricky. Furthermore there was a lot of people racing at about the same speed, so you really need to focus on your race and the stamina required to get through the race or hold your position if you’re in a good one!”

“This is definitely something that I would like to try again, and if you would like to try too, my recommendation is to work hard on your training when you’re there, so that you have that to rely on when you need to race!” – Alexia.

Matthew P, U11 Boys 3km race

Place 35 / 69, 11.28 mins

“It was one of the hardest races I’ve ever done but you just have to keep on going physically and mentally – don’t give up! There was literally 3 minutes time difference between first and last place, so it really could have been anyone’s race!!”

“I’m stoked with my race and my preparation leading into the race. You really have to keep at your training and don’t give up, even when you don’t feel like it because it is all worth it in the end!” – Matthew.

Congratulations to Salvadore, Alexia and Matthew! We are very proud of you all, your efforts and sportsmanship while representing St Joseph the Worker Primary!

Kind regards,
