Positive Behaviour Leaders

At last week’s assembly, our Positive Behaviour Leaders were proudly presented with their badges. I look forward to continuing to work alongside them as we explore how our SJW community can be respectful, safe, and responsible.

In our recent meeting, the student leaders collaborated to create a school-wide definition of Respectful. They also designed a poster that will be displayed in every classroom and shared spaces across the school. By using consistent language, we ensure that all students understand what it means—and looks like—to be respectful at SJW.

Term 2 PSG Meetings

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our Term 2 PSG Meetings. It was wonderful to celebrate each student’s progress toward their goals and set new targets for Term 3. Your ongoing support makes a real difference in your child’s learning journey.

Team Teach Training at St Joseph the Worker

At St Joseph the Worker, we are committed to supporting every child’s emotional wellbeing and safety. On Friday, June 6th, our staff completed a Team Teach training — a nationally recognised program that equips educators with practical, respectful strategies to respond to student behaviour in a calm and supportive way. All staff are now Level 1 trained, and Jane Manton is Level 2 trained.

Team Teach helps staff to:

· De-escalate challenging behaviour using calm communication

· Support distressed students with empathy and dignity

· Promote positive behaviour and respectful relationships

· Maintain safety for all students and staff

Why it Matters

Children sometimes experience big emotions they can’t manage alone. This training ensures staff can:

· Support emotional regulation

· Provide safe, calming spaces

· Use proactive, non-physical strategies to prevent incidents

· Respond safely and respectfully when physical intervention is necessary

Our Commitment This training reinforces our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment, delivering consistent and respectful behaviour support, and fostering strong partnerships with families to meet each child’s individual needs.

Term 3 Behaviour Disposition: Safe

Next term, our school-wide behaviour focus will be on the disposition of Safe. Feeling safe is the foundation for all learning and positive interactions. Being safe means making choices that protect yourself and others—physically, emotionally, and socially. Students will learn what safety looks, sounds, and feels like in different areas of school life.

Student Workshops: Learning to Be Safe

To launch our Term 3 Behaviour Disposition of being safe, all students will take part in an engaging, age-appropriate workshop by Pro Activity on the first day of Term 3. These one-hour sessions will explore how to stay safe physically, emotionally, and socially, and are designed to build confidence, emotional awareness, and positive behaviour.

Students will learn to:

  • Recognise safe and unsafe feelings
  • Understand personal space and boundaries
  • Use their voice to say “No” or seek help
  • Move away from unsafe situations
  • Identify trusted adults
  • Stay calm and make good choices
  • Understand the impact of harmful behaviour

Our Positive Behaviour Leaders will play an active role in supporting the workshops and helping to reinforce these key messages across the school throughout the term.

These workshops are an important part of our whole-school approach to Positive Behaviours and Respectful Relationships.

WOW Program – Final Week!

We’ve reached the final week of our WOW (Walk or Wheel Once a Week) program and the race for the Golden Boot Award and Pizza Party is on!

We’ve been thrilled with the enthusiasm and participation from students and families in promoting active, healthy, and environmentally friendly travel to school.

There’s still time to help your child’s class claim the Golden Boot for highest participation—every walk or wheel trip counts!

Let’s finish strong and celebrate a fantastic term of movement and community spirit.

Thank you again for your support!
