WRITING

The SLA’s have followed the writing process of planning, drafting, publishing, self and peer editing, to produce interesting and entertaining narratives for their audience.

I wrote a story about some friends who go to an island full of dinosaurs. I enjoyed typing up my story and I like that we displayed all our narratives on the wall so we could read other peoples.  Dylan

I really liked creating characters and making a setting with different problems that characters have to solve. I based most of my characters off characters from books I’ve read, and I used my imagination. The plot is the most exciting part of my story because you wouldn’t expect what happens to happen. I wrote four pages; it is the proudest piece of writing I have ever done. Grace D.

I enjoyed publishing my story and seeing what I could add once I had finished my draft. I liked having to use exaggerating language and punctuation to show off the characters emotions. I enjoyed how we could read other people's narratives and give them feedback, and they give us feedback on what we could add to ours.  Harlie.

I enjoyed thinking of and describing the characters and settings. In my story the main character’s best friend goes missing, he tries to look for him but can’t find him, he eventually gave up. A week later his mum told him he was moving to Indiana. I really enjoyed writing the introduction. I am proud of the good descriptive language I used.

GEOGRAPHY

As part of our inquiry, the SLA’s have been reviewing what the continents of the world are but also learning about some of the countries that belong to those continents. The major lines of latitude were investigated and identified as to where they belong on our earth. Students had to have a go creating the world with the lines of latitude, as well as the 7 continents on a balloon and faced some challenges as some worlds exploded!

How human impact on certain parts of our planet is affecting the environment has been another aspect that the students have been investigating, especially the Amazon rainforest and the impact of plastic pollution in our oceans. As a reflection, the SLA’s created a mind map and wrote from the perspective of the forest or the ocean about what is happening to them.

YOU make a difference!

Throughout our Inquiry we have investigated human impact on our world, and we looked at how we can help improve our behaviours.  We have started separating our food into Compost and Chicken Food tubs.   We are also making sure that we turn off the lights and heater when we are not in the classroom.  Simple changes can make a world of difference.

Alanah: Every little thing counts.  Even if it is just a small wrapper, an animal could choke on it if it is blown away.  Make sure you always put your rubbish in the correct bin.  How we behave now will impact on the future generations.

April:WASTE is a world problem, but it starts with us.  We need to make the change because it starts with us!  Put your waste in the right bin and recycle and be creative.

Levi: Make sure that you recycle and look after the environment everywhere you go.  Do not just do it at school because your teacher asks you to.  So, you should reuse things and make things last longer.  DO NOT BE WASTEFUL.
