Mokare Day: Dress Up as Your Dream Job
Mokare Day was a vibrant celebration of dreams and imagination, as students and staff embraced the theme: Dress Up as Your Dream Job. The school was buzzing with excitement, showcasing a wide variety of creative costumes, from pilots and fairies to rockstars, horse riders, Olympians and more. The enthusiasm was contagious, with staff leading the charge, fully embracing the fun with their own standout outfits.
Adding to the festive spirit was a delicious cake stall that quickly became a crowd favourite. Laughter and joy filled the air as everyone came together not just to celebrate, but also to support a great cause. Funds raised on the day went to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), highlighting Mokare’s strong community spirit. The event was a resounding success, bringing joy, creativity and generosity to the forefront of school life.
We are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Grandparents’ Day and our very first Whole School Athletics Carnival. Events like these truly highlight what a special and vibrant community our school is, a place where connections are celebrated and school spirit shines.
Classroom News
We hope you enjoy reading the news from our Early Childhood and Primary classes.
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten children are thoroughly enjoying our PLD program. Each week they focus on new letters and sounds. They are very excited that this is the first step towards reading books! So far this term, we have been focusing on s, a, t, p, i and n letters. We have also been learning some wonderful new skills as we perform our daily news for oral language development.
Pre-Primary
We had so much fun dressing as a farmer last week we decided to go and visit our school Market Garden. We met the chickens and the ducks and even found apples growing on a tree. We saw lots of bees and noticed the basil had flowered.
Year One
This week the Year Ones have been introduced to features of place and they are learning to differentiate between natural, constructed and managed features of places. In Science they have had great fun experimenting with different materials to see how they can be changed by bending, stretching, squeezing and twisting. This has enabled them to use some of their newly learnt adjectives too!
Year Two
This week we have enjoyed looking at Google Earth to identify our Continent, Country, State, Capital City, Region/Town and suburb. Some of us were even lucky enough to find our exact house location with this great website. We have also been looking at atlases and determining grid references. This is all assisting us to have a better understanding of where we are located in the world in relation to other places. This also ties in nicely with our unit in Mathematics on position, pathways, maps and directions. We had a fun time giving our peers directional information in order for them to get to a particular point, using left, right, up down, forwards and backwards as instructions.
Year Four
Wehave been looking atAustralian history from different perspectives to see how the same event/s can be experienced and interpreted differently by different people. Students are also investigating author craft with a focus on techniques authors use to develop characters in quest narratives including showing the character’s feelings through their actions and reactions and using figurative language. In Mathematics, the Year Four class has been investigating symmetry, learning how shapes can have only one or many lines of symmetry and how rotating shapes changes them. They are also finding out about place value to tenths.
Year Six
This week, our Year Six students had the opportunity to take part in an incursion led by A Stitch in Time, a programme dedicated to supporting youth mental health and wellbeing. Through powerful storytelling and engaging workshops, students explored important topics such as emotional regulation, resilience, self-belief and the value of seeking help. The session provided practical strategies for managing mindset and emotions, highlighted the vital connection between physical and mental health, and encouraged students to build strong community connections. With youth mental health more important than ever, this experience was a valuable step in equipping our students with the tools they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Languages
To celebrate Mokare Day, Year One students learned how to say “I want to be a…” in French – “Je veux être un/une …” – and I helped them translate their dream jobs. They completed this fun and inspiring task at a high level and should be very proud of themselves.
