Georgia Johnston and Aurora Saffery - Creative Arts and Culture Captains

Opus 1 and 2 Inspire our Clayfield Community

Opus 1, the College’s first music concert of the year, was held on 8 May and brought together a beautiful blend of primary and secondary ensembles, including Viotti, Avanti, Faure Flutes, and the Middle Years String Quartet. The evening showcased the passion, dedication, and talent of Clayfield's young musicians, each performance a testament to the students’ commitment to their craft.

We were especially delighted to welcome back alumna Bella Harris, one of Clayfield’s 2024 Creative Arts and Culture Captains, who shared thoughtful reflections on what music has meant to her. Bella’s words resonated deeply with our current students, and we thank her sincerely for taking the time to return and inspire. Clayfield values the enduring bond we share with our alumni, and it’s always heartwarming to see them return, to reconnect, reflect, and contribute to the vibrant life of our College.

A heartfelt thank you goes to all students and staff who contributed their time, energy, and talent to make Opus 1 such a memorable and uplifting event. You truly let your light shine. Just a few days later, on 14 May, the Opus 2 concert continued the celebration of music across our College, from the junior school through to the senior school. Performances included Corelli Strings, Paganini Strings, Allegria Strings, Ciao Bella, Canzona, Piccolo Choir, Big Band (featuring Year 12 soloist Georgia Johnston), and the Wind Orchestra.

A special highlight of the night was a Q&A session with returning alumna Dimity Whitaker, Clayfield’s 2024 College Dux. Dimity shared heartfelt reflections on her time in the Clayfield music program and offered insight into her current university studies, inspiring our students with her warmth and wisdom.

We would also like to thank Mrs Lyn for graciously stepping in at the last minute to accompany our ensembles on the night. Sincere thanks go to all the teachers and students whose commitment to rehearsals and preparation over the past term made both concerts such a success. Your dedication is seen and appreciated.

With Opus 1 and 2 behind us, preparations are now underway for Opus 3 in Term 3. We can’t wait to build on this momentum and continue celebrating the outstanding musical achievements of our Clayfield community.
