From the Year Prep Classroom

Cross Country Fun Run – What Little Champions!

Well done to all our amazing Preppies who took part in the Cross Country Fun Run last Thursday! It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, enthusiastic runners, and plenty of resilience on display. Whether they ran the whole way or gave it their very best try, every student should be proud of their effort. There was a real sense of fun, determination, and team spirit—just what Cross Country is all about!

What a Fantastic Week of Writing!

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Prep with writing! Our little learners have been working hard using sentence starters like “I can...” and “I went to...” to create their own sentences. It’s been fantastic to see them having a red-hot go at sounding out words and writing down the sounds they hear.

We’re so proud of their efforts! Whether it's “I can rit” (write), “I can jmp” (jump), or “I went to the prk” (park), every attempt is a step forward in their learning journey. We encourage our students to embrace mistakes; spelling doesn’t have to be perfect right now. What matters most is that they are giving it a go and building confidence in their writing skills. There’s been plenty of praise and support in the classroom, and we’re thrilled to see their enthusiasm grow.

Maths Fun – Exploring 2D and 3D Shapes!

This fortnight in Maths, our Prep students have been diving into the world of 2D and 3D shapes — and what a fantastic time they’ve had! We’ve been learning to name different shapes and describe their features, such as sides, edges, and corners.

Our 3D shape exploration has just begun, and students are already thinking like little scientists—asking questions like: Can it roll? Can it stack? Can it slide? These hands-on experiences have led to some great conversations and discoveries in class.

Why not keep the learning going at home? Talk about shapes you see every day—a cylinder-shaped cup, a rectangular table, or a spherical ball. Go on a shape hunt around the house—how many shapes can you spot? If you have magnetic shapes or blocks at home, encourage your child to build with them and explore the shapes they create. We’d love to see what they come up with! Feel free to send in photos this week so we can share and celebrate their creativity in class.

Religious Education – Celebrating and Discovering

A couple of weeks ago, we had the joy of joining in Father Michael’s Jubilee celebrations. It was a special occasion, and both Father Michael and Father Jun Jun truly enjoyed our visit—especially our wonderful singing! The students were so proud to be part of such a meaningful event.

We’ve now begun exploring the concept of Finding God in all things. This is a beautiful opportunity for our students to reflect on how God’s presence can be found in the world around them—in nature, in moments of kindness, and especially through love. It’s a gentle and meaningful way for children to begin recognising that God is with us always, in both big and small ways.

Keeping Mrs Phillips in Our Prayers

We are deeply saddened to share that Mrs Phillips' mum passed away suddenly over the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Karen and her family during this very sad time. Mrs Phillips will be spending this week at home surrounded by her loved ones. As a school community, we offer our heartfelt support and keep her in our prayers.
