Principals Report

Just as Eddie McGuire used to say on The Footy Show - “It’s been a big week in football!” ... it has been a big week at Sacred Heart!! We celebrated National Reconciliation Week, began 2026 Prep Tours and opened enrolments, held our School Fun Run and Cross Country and finished the week with Spirit Day for our Sacramental students then the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist over the weekend! Fortunately, the King’s Birthday long weekend is just around the corner!

Thank you to Miss Fountain, Madonna, Mrs Leary and Sharon for all the work they put into our Reconciliation Week celebrations. On Monday we had Sorry Day. On Wednesday we hosted local Indigenous members Aunty Molly and proud Yorta Yorta man (and parent at school) Jade Miller - who led our Reconciliation Culmination Day. The day also involved a sausage sizzle catered for by the Yarrawonga Lions Club. And on Friday, to cap off Reconciliation Week, our Yr6 Courage team travelled to Benalla, with students from Sacred Heart College, to celebrate a Healing Mass with other students from the Sandhurst diocese.

Enrolments are open for next year’s Preppies. We have had many families through on tours already and look forward to new families joining our school next year. Please spread the word among your friends that school tours can take place at anytime and enrolment enquiries are most welcome.

On Thursday, Mr O’Dwyer and Mr Hargreaves led our school Fun Run and Cross Country event – beginning at the Yacht Club and running around Chinaman’s Island(for the bigger kids). It was great to see so many parents and families come along to cheer on our students. Tim is confident in the 36 student-team we have sent to Wangaratta for the Ovens and Mitta Divisional Cross Country today (Wednesday)!!

Last Friday our Yr4 Sacramental students spent the day at the Church and College, reflecting on and preparing for, the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist.  Following this, on Saturday night and Sunday morning, these children were confirmed and received the Holy Eucharist for the first time. A big thank you to Fr Junjun, Fr Michael, Bishop Shane and all the staff – especially Mrs Stacey, Mrs Hillier, Mrs Dishot, Mrs McLarty and Katrina. And I would like to make special mention of Mrs McInness, our Catholic Identity Leader, who coordinated the parent-child information nights, the sacramental program and the actual Sacrament celebrations themselves. On the weekend we heard about the Ascension of Jesus (Lk24:46-53). I don’t remember a lot of scripture passages, but one from the weekend that stands out is when Jesus speaks to the women at his empty tomb (following his resurrection) and says, ‘Why look among the dead for someone who is alive?’ It is a clear reminder to us that Jesus died, was buried, rose from the dead, ascended to heaven and is still very much alive in our lives through the Holy Spirit. This is the same Holy Spirit that we celebrated on the weekend.

This week we welcome Mr Kennedy back to staff after some long service leave.

We continue our Prep tours and conclude the week with Tabloid Sports (hosted by ourYr6 Sports Captains) on Friday.

There are some important dates coming up that I would like to bring to your attention. Monday 9th June is the King’s Birthday holiday. Friday 20th June is the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Yr5’s go on camp to Sovereign Hill Wednesday 25th-Friday 27th June. Our last day of Term 2 is Friday 4th July. And lastly, our annual Grandparents’ Day will be held next term on Friday 25th July. Please add these dates to your calendar – more information regarding them will be shared in due course.

On Monday we sent home information regarding the formation of our Sacred Heart Primary School, School Advisory Council. (This letter is also included in this newsletter). If you would like to nominate someone, or self-nominate, please complete the form by Friday 13th June, by clicking on this
