From the Year 6 Classroom

Dear Parents and Families,

It’s hard to believe we’re already in Week 7! Term 2 continues to be filled with meaningful learning experiences, leadership opportunities, and a strong sense of community in Year 6.

Literacy

In Reading, we are continuing our exploration of Free Diving by Lorrae Coffin. Students have been engaging in rich discussions about the story’s historical context and its emotional impact. In Writing, we are developing personal responses—encouraging students to reflect deeply and critically about what they read, hear, and see, and express their own perspectives in thoughtful ways.

Numeracy

We have just concluded our unit on decimals, and students are now diving into probability. We’re exploring the language of chance, conducting experiments, and using data to make predictions. It’s been great to see students apply logical reasoning to everyday situations involving uncertainty and chance.

Religious Education

Our RE focus is Life Relationships, where students are learning about the importance of compassion, empathy, and the ways we build respectful, loving connections with others, inspired by Gospel values.

Inquiry – A Diverse and Connected World

This unit continues to spark curiosity as students investigate how people, cultures, and countries are linked through history, trade, and communication. The discussions around global interdependence have been thoughtful and engaging.

Tabloid Sports – This Friday

This Friday, students will take part in Tabloid Sports—a fun-filled session of team games and activities. Parents are warmly invited to attend and cheer the students on! Please note that there will be no school assembly this Friday.

Cross Country-

Well done to all the students who travelled to Wangaratta today to compete in the Regional Cross Country event. Your dedication, determination, and sportsmanship were outstanding. We are proud of the way you represented our school—congratulations on this great achievement!

Recent Highlights

  • Last Wednesday, Year 6 had the chance to attend the College Market Day. Students enjoyed a fun afternoon filled with delicious treats, exciting activities like “pie-ing” a student or teacher (Mr Carroll), and even a shot at a hole-in-one! It was a highlight of the week for many.
  • Last Friday, the Courage Team proudly represented Year 6 at Mass, showing reverence and maturity.
