From the Year 3 Classroom

Cross Country
Congratulations to all our Grade 3 students completing their first 2km Cross Country event. All students completed their event with great sportsmanship and did their house teams proud. Congratulations to Jack Cummins, Myles Cowan and Lola Flower who progress through to the next round in Wangaratta on Wednesday. Good luck!
Reading
We have finished reading our class novel Yirra and her Deadly Dog Demon and throughout this study have learned many new and interesting words relating to Indigenous culture. We have begun our new text 'Finding Our Heart'. Finding our Heart is a narrative nonfiction text about the Uluru Statement for young Australians. This story explains the Uluru Statement to children in an honest and authentic way, to support an understanding of Australia’s past, so we can have a shared future
Writing
We have finished our factual recounts on the ANZACs and this week are learning how to write a book report summary. By identifying the author's main purpose, ideas and learning about the text structure we will begin to draft an introduction this week based on our new text 'Finding Our Heart'.
Religious Education
This week we will complete our unit, Celebrating the Gifts of the Spirit, before commencing the next Source of Life Unit, Sacraments of initiation.
As a part of our current Source of Life Unit the students made cards and bookmarks for the Year Four students who received the Sacraments of Confirmation & Eucharist over the weekend.
Maths
Exploring Patterns and Multiples Over the past four lessons, students have been diving deeper into multiplication and division. Building on what they’ve already learned, they’ve been exploring number patterns and multiples. This helps strengthen their understanding of how numbers work together, which is essential for future maths topics. We’re also introducing them to algorithms (step-by-step methods for solving problems), giving them tools to solve more complex problems with confidence.
Working with Data In our current eight-lesson unit, students are becoming data detectives! They’re learning how to sort and classify information, conduct surveys, and use online sources to gather data. Then, they’re transferring that data into spreadsheets and learning how to choose the best way to display it—like bar graphs or pie charts. These skills are laying the groundwork for upcoming lessons where they’ll design their own data investigations and interpret the results.
Try This Fun Maths Game at Home! Students have been enjoying a fun and engaging Maths game in class that helps reinforce their learning. We’ve included a link to the video below so you can see how it works—and you’re more than welcome to give it a go at home with your child!
It’s a great way to support their learning while having fun together!
