The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.

Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.

At Sacred Heart the whole of the school participated in activities for National Reconciliation week 2025.

We had Aunty Molly Carter, who is a Community Cultural Advisory Consultant in Yarrawonga, come in and have a chat with the Year 6, 5’s and Year 4’s.

Aunty Molly spoke about what is the meaning and the history of Reconciliation. She also answered many questions from our students. Many thanks Aunty Molly.

The students enjoyed a sausage sizzle for lunch, which Woolworths donated and the Yarrawonga Lions Club generously gave of their time to cook and serve the students.

A Smoking Ceremony was performed by Jade Miller with his very helpful assistant his daughter, Quinn Costigan Miller. Quinn is in Grade 1. Jade is a proud Yorta Yorta man who ensured a respectful and meaningful experience took place for the students.

Jade and Quinn presented a beautiful painting, which they created together and will soon be displayed in the school foyer. The painting represents Quinn’s grandmother’s storylines and has significant meaning to their family.

The ceremony was concluded by the students singing “Solid Rock”, which is this year's theme song. Thanks to Ms Fountain for teaching the whole school the song, which was released in the 80’s but is now recognised as an iconic song for reconciliation.

Throughout the week the students participated in a range of art activities with their teachers and the very creative Mrs Whitely. These have been displayed throughout the school. Thankyou Mrs Whitely.

On Friday, The Courage Team and the students from Sacred Heart College travelled to St Joesph’s Benalla for the Reconciliation Mass which was celebrated by Bishop Shane. FCJ College were the hosts and the singing was wonderful with many solo performances.

I would like to especially acknowledge the Courage Team who over the last few weeks helped to organise these events. They were proactive and passionate about getting the Reconciliation message out into our community.

Many thanks to Zane, Brielle, River, Zierra, Carter, Kenz, Hazel, Cameron, Kassidie, TJ and Tippie. Well Done

In the #NRW2025 theme artwork created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, native plants − which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity − symbolise our collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.

Sausage Sizzle, Thank You!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the local

Yarrawonga Lions Club for generously coming to our school and providing us with a delicious sausage sizzle lunch.

We truly appreciate your time, effort, and support for our school.

We would also like to express our thanks to Woolworths Yarrawonga for the supply of sausages and bread for the day!

It was delicious!

Thank you to all
