FIRE CARRIERS

The 5/6 Unit Join the Conversation:

On the 26th of May 2025 some of our Year 5/6 students were commissioned to become F.I.R.E.* Carriers, we were lucky enough to be welcomed by Michael Chisholm (Catholic Education Sandhurst Aboriginal Education Leader), Sean and Keagan from TIG+

*Friends Ignite Reconciliation in Education

The day started with some traditional games with Sean and Keagan. The games were fun and intriguing, informing us about the past.

The Commissioning:

The ceremony started with a Smoking Ceremony lead by Keagan, the new Fire Carriers stood around the labyrinth as Keagan walked with the coolamon with eucalyptus leaves.

After the Smoking Ceremony Michael Chisholm light the fire and said “Stand tall, Fire Carriers, you are the Living Flames that will ignite the Fire of Reconciliation of True Justice, Love, Compassion and Hope for the world today.” He then warmed his hands on the flame and placed his hands on the shoulder of the new Fire Carriers saying “May you wear this badge with pride and with an outward sign of a Friend Igniting Reconciliation through Education in our school.” They then received their badges and certificates.

Will you be a F.I.R.E. Carrier in Year 5/6?
