Students have been engaging with the work of renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, whose exhibition is currently on display at the NGV. Celebrated for her bold use of colour, repetitive patterns, and work across a variety of mediums, Kusama’s distinctive style has sparked the students’ creativity and imagination. Drawing inspiration from her art, students explored and applied the elements of colour, shape, and pattern to produce vibrant and imaginative collages, drawings, and prints. Throughout the process, they were encouraged to reflect on their use of colour, consider how their choices influenced the overall composition, and compare their techniques to those used by Kusama.
