News from Year Six

Extreme Weather

What a disappointing week it has been for our students when checking weather stations.  No rain in our rain gauges, no wind turning our windvanes or our anemometers.  We've never been so happy to see rain on a school day as we were on Friday - but there wasn't enough by 9am to show in our gauges!  Next students will be doing on a project on some kind of extreme weather eg drought, flood, cyclone, bushfire

Maths

We are just finishing off our unit on fractions and are moving into 3D shape next week.  James has made a pattern with pattern blocks and is figuring out the fraction of the whole pattern that is made from each block.

Our main focus is the shapes made when objects are cross-sectioned, so look out for opportunities to cut fruit, vegetables, cheese, wood and any other suitable objects and find the different 2D shapes that are revealed.

Confirmation

As part of our lead up to Confirmation, students have been creating posters about the different symbols of Confirmation and what they represent.

Homework

Many of the students in our class are showing great improvement with their timetable fluency.  Some students have been given Timestable Rockstars workbooks to help them develop their fluency.  A suitable amount is one page per night, with the aim of completing this in about 5 minutes.  Don't forget the 20 minutes of reading!
