Principal's Report

Creativity & Endeavour. Respect, Inclusion, Resilience

Student-Free Day 6th June

A reminder that tomorrow, 6th of June, is a student-free day. Staff will be working on a variety of important tasks, related to reporting and implementation of curriculum updates and the recently launched Victorian Teaching & Learning Model.

Without descending into too much edu-babble, the current time is a very interesting one in Victorian education, with a shift in priority across the state in favour of phonics instruction in reading, and and explicit teaching focus across all learning disciplines.

As mentioned previously in this newsletter, we at Roberts McCubbin Primary School feel very well placed to embrace these changes, having begun to look at the research and best practice well ahead of the Department of Education mandates. Our teaching staff have consistently shown great adaptability and professionalism in planning for and implementing any adjustments to the way our lessons are presented. We look forward to student learning at our school continuing to go from strength to strength as a result.

Student Voice at Robbie Mac!

We love hearing student ideas and feedback, particularly when it leads to exciting or charitable initiatives or improvements around the school.

A couple of examples of these have occurred recently, with some student-led ideas leading to innovative fundraisers for cancer charities.

We've also had some feedback from our Aussie-rules football loving students that our single set of goals is causing from frustrations. As a result, we're going to be investing in some new goals for the oval to be delivered very shortly.

Thank you to all of our students for your wonderful ideas about how to improve our school, and our world!

School Council Public Reporting Meeting

Each year, School Council is required to hold a Public Reporting Meeting. This year, this meeting will occur on Wednesday, 18th of June at 7pm in the School Library. The duration of the meeting is generally 15 to 20 minutes. Our regular June School Council meeting will follow the Public Reporting Meeting.

During the meeting, attendees hear a summary of School Council business for the previous 12 months, including presentation of the 2024 Annual Report. This report is available for download from the school website following the meeting. Any audited school accounts are also presented at the Public Reporting Meeting.

The Public Reporting Meeting is open to any community members who would like to attend. To assist with our planning of the meeting agenda, an RSVP would be appreciated - to roberts.mccubbin.ps@education.vic.gov.au
