Focus on Learning

Stage 3 - Mrs Murray, Mrs Hoffman & Mrs Wilson

It's been another incredibly busy and productive few weeks in Stage 3, with our Year 5/6 students delving into a range of engaging and thought-provoking learning experiences across different subjects.

PDH

Our PDH lessons have seen students investigate "what it means to have a balanced lifestyle," focusing on the crucial elements of sleep, nutrition, and exercise. It has been fantastic to see their personal reflections come to life as they spent time creating visually appealing posters that illustrate what a balanced lifestyle looks like to each of them.

Fun Fact: The recommended sleep for the average 10-12 year old is 8-10 hours!

Writing

In Writing, our students have been undertaking a powerful historical task: drafting a letter to the Governor-General in response to the significant Wave Hill Walk-off, led by the inspiring Vincent Lingiari. Students have begun passionately petitioning for critical issues such as land rights, equal pay, or better housing and working conditions. This important inquiry has led to some truly fascinating discussions and the impressive application of sophisticated Tier 3 language and appositives in their persuasive writing.

Fun Fact: Vincent Lingiari, a leader of the Gurindji people from the Northern Territory, led over 200 Aboriginal Stockmen to strike for better pay and working conditions.

Mathematics

In Mathematics with Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Wilson, students have been immersing themselves in the world of data, graphs, and timelines. They have worked exceptionally hard at improving their graphing skills, meticulously interpreting various datasets and showcasing their abilities by transferring this information accurately into impressive side-by-side column graphs. Their understanding of how to visually represent and analyse information is truly developing!
