Prep

Prep we have been discussing what living things need to survive, with a focus on Pets and Farm Animals. Students designed amazing chicken houses, paying careful attention to food and water dispensers, elevated nesting areas and spaces for snacking on grass and having dust baths.

Year 1

We have been investigating external body coverings, including feathers and fur.  There has been much discussion about the use of camouflage and bright colours. Students created poison dart frogs, understanding that the frogs’ bright colours are a warning sign -

‘Don’t eat me! I’m poisonous!’

Year 2

Our Grade 2s have been doing an amazing job researching their marine animals. It has been impressive to see their commitment and initiative. Some students have been doing extra project work at home, and others have been bringing in books, photos and fun facts to supplement their class work.

 Year 3

Students have been continuing their animal project. We have been focusing on adaptations and understanding how different physical and behavioural adaptations help an animal survive in its native habitat.

Grade 4

Grade 4 students have been understanding the intruders to our native ecosystems and food webs. Looking at the impacts that invasive species can cause. They have also been working on building a food chain in minecraft! Ask to have a look as there are some fabulous designs!

Grade 5

The grade 5 students have been publishing their invented animals this week. With some designs being created out of clay or on makers' empire.

Grade 6

The plants are starting to grow. Students have started to watch their plants take off! Tracking the growth and tending to their plants. We have also been looking to the future and how we can come up with reasonable solutions to some of the current environmental issues in Melbourne.
