Year 5 News

From Matilda B, Year 5 Teacher
Writing By 5E
We have been working on developing our persuasive writing skills.
Our teachers introduced us to a competition called the Parliament Prize where Victorian students from Year 5 to Year 12 can put forward issues they are passionate about with a Member of Parliament.
We picked a topic we were passionate about and researched it, then wrote a persuasive piece on it - remembering to use the correct structure, interesting word choice (including high modality words) and evidence to back our opinion. The final step (if we want to enter the competition) is to record a short video of us, presenting our Member's Statement. It has been a fun process so far! Hopefully somebody from NMPS can win a prize!

So far in history, we have been working on creating a presentation about influential who changed the way we live. For example: Ned Kelly, Ash Barty and Eddie Mabo, you get the idea. Everyone has chosen a person to write about and some of the year fives have been also doing partner work. We have been researching and practising our notetaking skills while doing it. People have also started creating fabulous presentations and are soon showing it to their class when they are done. We are looking forward to seeing the amazing presentations people have been working on tirelessly. Can't wait to see them!
COOKING news

Last week in cooking we created a masterpiece known as… LENTILS!!! These small delectable orbs were beyond compare. They were combined with a soup like substance to make the perfect dish. We also made a side of scrumptious bread-like injera which we then soaked in the ever so soupy lentils and all manners of other vegetables. While you ate, you could feel the warm delicious lentils glide down into your tummy. The injera also added a pinch of savoury and smooth flavour. The holes in the injera were the perfect hiding spot for the little Lentil orbs to store themselves in so when you took a bite you would not only feel the warm hug of bread in your tummy you would also feel a taste sensation as the warm beans slid this way and that.
Overall it was a very welcoming and sensational experience for your mind and your taste buds.
