Year 3 News

From Lizzie, Year 3 Teacher

Growing Reconciliation

Last week we participated in Reconciliation Week at school. It is an important period where we acknowledge what has happened in the past and commit to working towards a better future. This takes place every year from the 27 May to the 3rd of June and provides the opportunity to listen and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders stories and history.

We decorated native hibiscus flowers in purple which represents respect and dignity. We also wrote words that we think are important to remember during this week such as friendship, kindness, forgiveness, strength and hope.

We then shared our flowers at our year 3 assembly.

RISE Awards

We would like to congratulate our Term 2 RISE award recipients for their consistent demonstration of the school values in the classroom and in the playground. They always make responsible choices,  make thoughtful contributions in class and try their best! Well done Isabella, Chanel, Lisa, Imran and Luca.

Geography Projects

On Friday the 6th of June we invited the school community to come and view our geography projects. All term we have been researching Australia’s neighbouring countries such as Fiji, the Philippines, New Zealand and Singapore. We have learnt about important landmarks, local cuisine, cultural traditions, languages, cities and more! We put all of this together into posters and travel brochures. It was so nice to see families come and be amazed at what we have achieved.

Expert Talk

In 3C we were so lucky to have Bonnie (Clancy's mum) come in and give an expert talk on Botany. Bonnie works at the University of Melbourne and shared with the class lots of cool plant information. We saw plants that looked like Grug and plants that look like gorillas! She even talked about her experience of meeting incredible scientists such as David Attenborough and Stephen Hawking.

We would love to hear from more community members about topics they are an expert in. This might be a hobby, career, language or passion that you can share with the students! Reach out to your child’s classroom teacher if you have something you’d like to share.
