End of term arrangements & assemblies

With less than a week to go until the end of the school year, we are on the home straight and want to inform you about our arrangements for the end of the school year.

Our final day of term for students is Tuesday 19th December and we will finish at the normal time of 3:30pm

Team Kids will now be offering a full day program for students on Wednesday 20th December. This can be booked at https://www.teamkids.com.au/venues/st-kilda-park-primary-oshc-5/

Our big end of term celebration assembly will be on Friday 15th December at 9am. This will be a wonderful sign-off for the school year with musical performances, Year 6 awards and perhaps a surprise or two.

Also taking place on Friday 15th December will be our final transition session for the year. During the afternoon, students will meet their 2024 class teacher in their 2024 classroom.

We will have a short final assembly at 3:15pm on Tuesday 19th to say a final farewell to our graduating Year 6 students and to hear them sing their graduation song.

Thunderstorm asthma warning

A HIGH thunderstorm asthma forecast has been issued for tomorrow, 13 December 2023.

People with a history of asthma, undiagnosed asthma or hay fever are at an increased risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma.

The school will have asthma emergency kits, relievers and hay fever medication available and will familiarise ourselves with all action plans and asthma first aid.

Italian Day

Last Friday saw our school come together to celebrate Italian Day!

The day started at assembly with some special performances and sharing of learning. The Foundation students performed 'Andiamo alla festa' together entirely in Italian and some Year 5/6 students shared their research projects on the different regions of Italy - sharing facts and figures.

During the day in the classrooms, students engaged with special activities linked to Italy and her language and culture.

Students also got to enjoy a professional performance 'Ciao! Italy with 'Mr Fagiolo', a fun, educational & very funny portrayal of a true story based on an Italian mans journey to Australia from his home Italy. An interactive presentation with a man and his suitcase as he shares his story.

The day also included a chance for students to enjoy some authentic Italian gelato and a slice of pizza - the high point of the day for many!

Melbourne United visit

Yesterday (Tuesday 12th December) we welcomed some special visitors to the school. A team of Melbourne United basketballers came into school to run a series a clinics throughout the day for all year levels.

As Melbourne United are currently sitting top of the NBL, this was a fantastic opportunity to meet and learn from some athletes at the very top of their game.

Each class got to work with the (incredibly tall) professional basketballers to develop their own skills and received the gift of a 'Game Time' basketball jersey.

After lunch we enjoyed playing a whole-school game against Melbourne United and our students loved the opportunity to share a court with some of the best basketballers in the country.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the superior athleticism and skill of the United players told in the end and they ran out winners but our students loved the opportunity to get autographs from the players before the end of the day.

A huge thank you to Tom McKenzie for organising this fun visit.

Mango Pickup

Earlier in the year we offered SKiPPS families the opportunity to purchase a delicious tray of fresh Queensland Mangoes, direct from the grower through our annual 'Mango Fundraiser'.

Despite massive challenges due to less than ideal growing conditions over spring, we are excited to announce that the mangoes will be delivered to school on Monday 18th December

Families who have placed an order will be asked to collect their trays on this day from the Performing Arts room from 3:30pm - 4:00pm.

If you are unable to collect on this day, please let us know and we can hold onto the tray for collection the following morning.

Education and Policy

During our final Education and Policy meeting this year, we conducted a comprehensive review of the SKiPPS Anaphylaxis Policy. The updated policy is now accessible on the school website under the schools documents page via the following link https://www.skipps.vic.edu.au/community/school-documents/

As we approach a new school year, it's crucial that both staff and the community familiarise themselves with our anaphylaxis policy. I strongly encourage everyone to take the time to read through the policy. For parents or carers of anaphylactic children, please ensure the below information is provided to the office in 2024:

  • for new parents and carers or students with recently diagnosed anaphylaxis, please obtain an ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis from the student’s medical practitioner and provide a copy to the school as soon as practicable

  • immediately inform the school in writing if there is a relevant change in the student’s medical condition and obtain an updated ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis

  • provide an up-to-date photo of the student for the ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis when that Plan is provided to the school and each time it is reviewed

  • provide the school with a current adrenaline auto injector for the student that has not expired.

Lost Property

As always as we head towards the end of term, our SKiPPS lost property is overflowing with lots of discarded jumpers, jackets and other belongings. It has also grown this week with items returned from Dads' Camp.

Below are some photos of a fraction of the items currently missing in action.

Please come and visit the lost property  - this is located by the piano just inside the door from the quadrangle towards the Year 3/4 classrooms.

Any items not claimed by the end of the final day of term will be donated to charity.
