Extra Curricular at MAG

2023 was an exceptional year of growth for our music programs at MAG, providing greater opportunities for students including:

  • The creation of new rock bands involving over 60 students across Primary and Secondary
  • The introduction of several ‘masterclass’ ballet sessions with professional ballet dancer and teacher Emma Mexa
  • Milestones for our Jr Singers choir and Drumline, who both won their divisions in the Bendigo Eisteddfod and National Drumline competition respectively.

Yet another exciting year lies ahead in 2024, with continued growth and opportunities. Read on to find out more!

Invitation to join our Co-curricular Choirs – Jr Singers and Snr Singers

The foundation for all music education is based first and foremost around singing and the voice. Not only is singing in a group beneficial for all musicians, but it is also a core and fundamental element in society, improves aural skills, musical literacy, and confidence in performance – and of course, can be extremely fun!

At MAG, we offer both a Primary and Secondary vocal ensemble.

JR SINGERS

Jr Singers is for students from Years 3 – 6 and we encourage students who enjoy singing and music to join.

Jr Singers will have many performance opportunities through the year, as well as prepare performances for an exciting event; the Bendigo Eisteddfod in Term 2 (details to come).

Weekly Jr Singers rehearsals for 2024 will commence Friday 16 February (Week 3) before school from 8.15-8.45am in JS4, led by Mrs Fiona Gibbs.

SNR SINGERS

Participation in Jr Singers or Snr Singers does not incur a cost, however a high level of individual commitment to attend weekly rehearsals will be required to ensure the ensemble is able to progress.

Year 4 Strings and Strings Ensemble

We are thrilled to announce we are reinstating our Year 4 Strings Program and a Strings Ensemble, which will provide exciting opportunities for students.

We welcome Ms Katie Kim, experienced music tutor and multi-instrumentalist, who will lead and grow our Strings program.

As part of Primary classroom music, all Year 4 students will receive at least ten sessions learning violin with Ms Katie Kim, and we are looking forward to commencing a co-curricular Strings Ensemble in the coming weeks.

Students with prior Strings experience, learning violin or cello for example, are invited to join our Strings Ensemble, which will be held during Monday lunchtimes in JS17. Please contact Mrs Gibbs for further details.
