Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

In English, our Prep students have been learning about Nursery Rhymes and Fables. To deepen our learning of 'This Little Piggy Went to Market' we went on an excursion to the South Melbourne Market! We had a great time walking and looking at all the interesting things to do there. The Preps then enjoyed a feast with food that we bought!

Year 1

Our Year 1 students are thoroughly enjoying learning about number bonds. This week, they applied their knowledge of 10 facts in a fun game focused on making 10. Look at all these smiling faces!

Year 2

Our Year 2 students have been learning about the history of trams in our Humanities Unit: Changing Melbourne. They learnt about trams of the past which were horse drawn. This led them to the present day where Melbourne has the largest tram network in the world!

Our students then turned their attention to the future by designing ‘Trams of the Future!’ They let their imagination run wild with futuristic features. Let's hope that some of these designs become reality!

Year 3

Our Year 3 students have been exploring human senses and movement in Science. A highlight has been integrating table tennis into lessons, allowing them to experience firsthand how the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems work during physical activity. The students are loving playing table tennis and are rapidly improving their skills! This week we learned about inventions that can help with senses and movement such as hearing aids and braille. Students wrote their names in braille and some of our curious learners even used their knowledge of the braille alphabet to make sense of the signs in our school environment.

Year 4

In Year 4, we have dived into the exciting world of "Healthy Me" in our science unit! This engaging topic is allows us to explore the intricacies of the human body and the key elements necessary for maintaining optimal health. Through this unit, we discovered that staying healthy involves more than just a balanced diet. We've learned that being a healthy student means engaging in at least 60 minutes of being active every day.

To bring this concept to life, we participated in an in-visit with the team from Fun Fit last week. The Year 4's had a blast participating in various active challenges, including flower sticks, balancing plates, hula hoops, and even a bit of acrobatics. This hands-on experience not only reinforced the importance of physical activity but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the wonders of the human body.

Year 5

Tee-Ball Gala Day

In Week 5, Year 5 students took part in our Year 5 and 6 Tee-Ball Gala Day. The day was filled with hitting, running and great sportsmanship. Students were able to put skills they have been learning in Physical Education into play. We saw great teamwork, resilience, and enthusiasm. The support from the SMPS community was evident from the constant cheers of encouragement. We were so impressed with how safe and respectful the Year 5 students were when using public transport and walking safely to Murphy Reserve. What a fantastic day!

Year 6

Tee-Ball Extravaganza!

Last week, Year 6 students dazzled on the field during our action-packed Tee-Ball Gala Day. Laughter filled the air as they swung, ran, and showcased incredible sportsmanship. Drawing from their Physical Education lessons, students demonstrated remarkable skill and finesse, impressing everyone with their teamwork, resilience, and boundless enthusiasm.

The vibrant atmosphere was further heightened by the support of the SMPS community, whose cheers echoed throughout the event, uplifting every participant. Many schools commented on this throughout the day. Well done!

Not only did our Year 6 stars shine on the field, but they also demonstrated exemplary behavior off the field. Their safe and respectful conduct while traveling to Murphy Reserve was truly commendable. Thanks to the work you do outside of school to support this.

What a sensational day it was. Thanks once again to our amazing volunteers who helped us on the day.
