  • Collect any eggs laid to enjoy with your family, once they start laying
  • Make sure the gate is latched and locked using the coded lock each day
  • Attend a brief training session to learn about our feathered friends

Chicken Welfare

We know there will be much excitement from the students having these friends onsite at the school and animal and student welfare is always front of mind.

We ask that:

  • Food is not fed through the fence
  • Chickens are not to be removed from the chicken coop unless supervised by a Coordinator or member of staff
  • Chickens are not to be chased around Pat’s Patch when exploring under supervision

Conditions Agreed with the School

  • Animal and student welfare is always front of mind.
  • The chickens stay for as long as their welfare is adequately supported by the Chicken Committee as the School cannot pickup shortfall in care under any circumstances.
  • The Chicken Committee must have no less than 10 families engaged and provide a register to the school (so the school can contact people if needed).
  • Should the Chicken Committee, school, SC or any member of the community become concerned the chickens are not getting the care they need we will consult to seek a resolution and if issues cannot be resolved and maintained, make a decision on their welfare and future at school.
  • The school will measure the levels of fox activity and native animal casualties and consult if this escalates.
  • A Risk Assessment has been done and is available here for review.
