Welcome to Clayfield College Music 2024! Our Music team here at Clayfield are prepared and looking forward to starting rehearsals in Week 2, commencing Monday 29 January.

All students are welcome to join our un-auditioned choirs and are invited to attend our first rehearsal in Week 2. Please see the list of un-auditioned choirs and ages below:

FORMAT 

Years 7-12 - Avanti, directed by Miss Spencer. Avanti rehearse on a Wednesday morning at 7:15am in the Chapel. 

Years 4-6 – Campo delle Voci, directed by Miss Ciol. Campo delle Voci rehearse on a Tuesday morning at 7:30am in the Chapel.

Years 1-3 – Piccolo Choir, directed by Mr Desmarchelier. Piccolo Choir rehearse on a Friday morning at 7:30am in the Chapel.

New students in Years 7-9 who are interested in joining the auditioned choir, Ciao Bella are invited to attend an audition on Monday 29 January at lunchtime in MU2. Ciao Bella rehearsals are on Wednesdays in the Chapel from 3:30 - 4:30pm. 

2023 Private Music Tuition

We offer private specialist tuition for the following instrument groups:

Piano (from Grade 2), Strings (from Grade 3), Band (from Grade 5), and Vocal (from Grade 6).

Any student wishing to apply for Private Music Tuition can submit the following online Application form, to be completed by a Parent or Caregiver. Tuition fees, terms and conditions are communicated in the form. 

Instrumental lessons will commence in either Week 2 or Week 3 and Instrumental Tutors will be issuing their timetables to parents and students in the next week.

Staffing News

We are delighted to welcome Alessandra Ciol who will be joining our team and teaching many Primary Music classes (see more information in the New Staff Introductions).

LOVE is in the Air!!!!

Would you believe we have 3 engagements this year??? Congratulations to Tim Opstelten and Sofie Spencer who were engaged to their partners over the Christmas holiday break. Alessandra Ciol (Primary Music) is also engaged and will be married in May this year. There is a fabulous vibe and a lot of wedding whispers within our department walls!

Staff Performances

If anyone attended the Queensland Ballet Nutcracker Series at QPAC in December, you might have spotted some of our staff in the Orchestra Pit. Emily Francis, Sarah Dietz and Karen Gordon were all performing in this production.

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Lillian Child (Year 8) who was awarded an Honours (A) for her Grade 4 AMEB comprehensive Cello exam at the end of 2023.

Congratulations to Weiliao (Vera) Zhang (year 8) who was awarded a Pass for her Grade 6 AMEB Piano exam and a High Distinction for her Grade 2 Theory of Music exam at the end of 2023.

Musical 2024 - 'The Little Mermaid'

Our musical cast commenced rehearsals in an intensive two-day workshop, which guest artists, Nick Haus (musical director), and Jess French (choreographer).

We were delighted to be running the entire show, in preparation for our performances on the 22 and 23 February 2024 (Week 5).

Rehearsals will continue for the entire cast on Tuesday and Friday afternoons in the assembly hall.
