Production News

During the past fortnight the year 6’s have been working on our school production ‘What About Winter’. In these past 2 weeks we have been lucky enough to have Mr Battey, Mrs J, and Mrs Bowes come to help us with our vocals and choreography. We have all been working hard and practicing our roles. All the year sixes are so excited to showcase their first school production on September 10 & 11. The excitement is building tremendously with each character slowly getting an insight to their costume!

For the last 4 weeks we have been working extremely hard on production, and about 2 weeks ago we got our production t-shirts, the whole process from when we got our scripts, has been one of the most exciting things we’ve done this year. We have been really committed to our first dance once it got choreographed. We all can’t wait until the opening night to show our hard work and our dedication to give the audience the best performance we can offer. Hope to see you there.

Over the past several weeks, us grade sixes have been putting a lot of effort into this years annual production! If you weren't already aware, all funds from our canteen this term are being put towards the production. During the past weeks, we have had a variety yummy treats including chocolate covered marshmallows, jelly cups and sometimes even dim sims and other hot treats! The grade sixes have been very excited to work on this production and we would really appreciate it if you could pay the canteen a visit every Wednesday at first recess!

Our year six production is called What About Winter? and it’s really coming along. It’s a story of friendship, courage, teamwork and joy. All the year sixes have been working very hard to make it look amazing, so we hope you like it. Every Wednesday we do 3 sessions of production, which is incredibly hard work. We have been introduced to our costumes and props, and they all look so good! We have started learning choreography, which is harder than it looks! We hope to see you there on the night!

Kokoda Day 8th August One Tree Hill

It was extremely cold, but it was still nice to see everyone there in support of the fallen. We sang the national anthem and a few of our fellow folks put names on the white crosses (there were 22 names to represent those who paid the ultimate sacrifice at the Battle of Kokoda. Everyone was very respectful and had amazing manners. While we were there we got lots of photos and there was a guy filming a documentary for the War Memorial. After the service, we went over to all the food, and we waited respectfully to receive our share of food.

Olympics Day

On Friday, 2nd of August Mr Anderson set up a whole school Olympics with the help of year 6. We all had our own countries that we were assigned to and each group had about 25 people. The whole school had loads of fun, some activities were: archery, horse racing, skateboarding, swimming and much more. All countries would have a go at each activity and we would try our hardest to get medals. All the countries did exceptionally well in everything they participated in!

On the second of August the whole school participated in Olympics day. Everybody was split into different country groups. It was a good opportunity to work with other people from different year levels. Mr Anderson (aka Captain Olympic) organised lots of different sports for us to indulge ourselves in and enjoy. This included sports like Equestrian, Athletics and Swimming in which we could win different medals. We even had an Olympic trivia! At the end, we had a closing ceremony parade to congratulate all the athletes who participated. It was a big success and lots of fun for everyone.

Regional Netball.

Last Wednesday on the 31st of July, 10 grade 6 girls played in the netball division finals. We played at the Ferntree Gully indoor netball courts. The first game played was against Emerald Primary School, sad to say we lost, but everybody played to their best ability. The next two games that we played we won, but unfortunately, we didn’t qualify for regionals. Although we didn’t make it through, we all played so well and no one gave up. Overall, we all had a great day and learnt lots of new skills.

Poetry Competition

Recently the grade 6 students started poetry. We wrote a poem specifically on nature, so we could submit it into a poem forest the contest. In this contest every poem submitted is one tree planted. All the grade 6’s entered this contest, and all are poems are excellent and might even win.

Here is Stranded by Amity.G.

Stranded Surrounded by gum trees,12 years I’m finally free.

12 years I was trapped, when I was found everyone clapped.

After a while I got used to it, although I did miss everyone a bit.

I had to learn how to fight, it got quite scary at night.

Stranded on an island, searching for a diamond.

The sand was hot, at last they came in a yacht.

I had to build my own cabin, so many things to imagine…

Some of the days were lonely, on those days the time passed slowly.

Other days the time passed fast,

Freed at last…

I am glad to be off the island, now I will forever stick to dry land.

There are some things I might miss, but that’s okay because I am full of bliss.

My new home surrounded by plants,

I’m glad that I now have pants.

I’ve managed to get a job, I got help from my friend Bob.

Life on dry land is good, although sometimes I am misunderstood.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed in big crowds, so I take a deep breath and look at the clouds.

I love to climb the trees, and also hang out with the bees

. At night I like looking at the cars, and during the day I just watch the cars.

I have many friends, but I realised some of them were pretend. So many days out at sea, finally I am free…

Now here is Weeping Willow by Sienna.H.

Weeping Willow A tree sad and alone,

branches swaying in the wind.

I push through the slow droopy leaves.

I come to the strong wooden heart.

I reach for the strong arms and I climb.

Slithers of sunlight shine through the thin,

moss green leaves, trickles of water roll down

the stem of this magnificent tree.

reach the top at sunset.

The sun fades behind the mountains, it’s breathtaking,

an ombré of pink and orange.

 The stars glow as the moon comes out from its slumber,

in a world of magic and wonder.

 Owls fly and bats cry, kangaroos sing their lullabies.

But the willow sad and alone can only wallow in her sorrow.

I hear her sadness, I hear her cry.

I plant another to keep her company, to stay.

Her cry is no longer of her sorrow, but now it’s for a better tomorrow.

This poetry unit has been so much fun, we hope somebody in grade 6 wins!
