Dear Parents,
As we move towards the middle of Term 3, we would like to share some highlights of what your children have been learning and achieving.
English
- Our students have been diligently working on spelling patterns, homophones, and contractions.
- Students are also in the process of planning, drafting, and finalising their autobiographies. The focus has been on self-editing, using subheadings and organising their writing into clear paragraphs.
Maths
- This term we continued on with our fractions unit and have moved on to recapping the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Students have also been reinforcing their understanding of place value, working with numbers up to tens of thousands.
-This week we are looking at worded mathematical problems and how we can use the information to answer the question.
Inquiry
- Our inquiry unit has been centred around rules and laws, exploring how they are applied in our daily lives and the games we play.
- Students are now starting to create their own inclusive games in small groups, considering the diverse needs of all participants.
The Resilience Project
We have been focusing on emotions, mindfulness, and respecting ourselves and others. This has been a vital part of our wellbeing curriculum, helping students develop important social and emotional skills.
NAIDOC Week Competition
During NAIDOC Week at the start of this term, students from schools across Australia were invited to create their own artwork that reflects this year's NAIDOC theme ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud’. We are proud to announce that Grade 3SH came 2nd and 3J came 3rd! This is a fantastic achievement and reflection of the artistic talents and connections our students have to Country.
Staying Safe Online
We have been discussing the importance of staying safe online. We encourage you to visit the eSafety Commissioner's website at www.esafety.gov.au/parents for valuable resources and information on issues such as inappropriate content, restrictions and cyberbullying. The website provides advice on parental controls and downloadable resources to help ensure your child's online safety.
Incursions and the lead up to Book Week
- On Monday, students enjoyed an incursion where they watched a play called 'Make a Miracle.'
- On Thursday, students from Grade 3-6 were a part of an online webinar run by author Andy Griffiths to promote his new book ‘The Land of Lost Things’! It was an inspiring session for our young readers and the students loved the interactive part using emojis to 'choose their adventure path'. The session had a follow up task of creating their own adventure scene and characters, which the students thoroughly enjoyed.
- Grade 3 students have been enthusiastic about reading biographies, learning about notable individuals, and discussing their strengths, interests and contributions to society.
Olympic Day
On Friday the whole school came dressed up as Olympians from countries all over the world. The students had a fantastic day filled with fun activities and enjoyed being in groups with students from Prep to Grade 6. The closing ceremony was a wonderful showcase of the respect, sportsmanship and connectedness our school has to self, others and the environment.
Thank you for your ongoing support. It has been a fantastic start to Term 3 in Grade 3 and we look forward to continuing our learning journey.
Warm regards,
Grade 3 Teaching Team.
