It has been a wonderful start to Term 3 in the Year 1 space!! Our students have come back energised and ready to tackle a big term of learning.
Olympics Fever
Students have been highly engaged in learning about the Olympics taking place in Paris and have been keeping daily medal tally’s and also talking about the various sports and ceremonies. It ahs been creating great opportunities for developing speaking and listening skills. They have also had some more practice of tabloids sports in their buddy sessions with our Year 6 students.
Reading and Writing
Our Year 1s have been very busy learning about various animals that they will write information about in the form of a report. They students have been using digital texts on the iPads to improve their knowledge and record factual information to share in their written pieces. This has also tied into their weekly ICT session where they will construct a display of their published writing.
Maths
Students have recently completed their unit on measurement, exploring; mass, length and capacity. We have now moved into exploring the concept of fractions and the students have been very enthusiastic in their approach to this new concept. We look forward to explore the upcoming units with them and consolidating their skills in play-based maths games.
School Wide Positive Behaviours
Our students have been learning and implementing moving safely around the school environments and have benefitted from watching student created videos. They hold each other to account to ensure our school is a safe and respectful place to learn and play.
