Wakakirri

Wakakirri 2024!

Wow! What a night! After a long seven months, last Friday August 23rd was finally the night for our brilliant Wakakirri students to show their skills on stage, and they were incredible.

After a smoothly run day of practice, hair and makeup, dancing up a storm at the student event, and with bellies full of pizza we all settled down to watch 5 schools do their thing before it was finally our time to shine. Save the best ‘til last, I always say!

Everyone looked amazing and worked together seamlessly as a team as I watched with enormous pride from side of stage. The acting was fantastic, the dancing high energy and the performance ran perfectly as planned.

And then it was time for the awards…

Production awards for Sets, Props and Costumes
Lead cast award for Performance in Acting
Storytelling Award for Story Construction and Clarity
Creative production award for Individual Costume Design

Stage Managers award for Backstage Crew

AND a “Highly Commended” State Award

Count them up, that’s eight!

The Amabassador’s comments were: "Congratulations team! I’m so impressed with your very impactful and important message of not taking our loved ones for granted. Sometimes we do this when we don’t mean to and so I feel this is a beautiful reminder everyone can take on board. A story-dance should be clear and driven by the plot and so I commend you on the use of this well-loved story to express an important message. The moment the ensemble crowded and antagonised the king on his thrown was a very memorable visual. Some fantastic, clear staging really helped some big beat changes in our story - beautifully executed and thought through. Congrats to our acrobats who brought a high level of skill and energy to the stage! I could see the love that went into the set design. Well done working in some neat transitions with your set pieces. I could see the practise that had gone into this. The students in the boat was an impressive visual. Some very helpful use of projections to support your storytelling! Wow that dragon! Special shout-out to the actor in the role of ‘Max’ leading the ensemble with confidence and emotive acting. Such a beautifully crafted performance. Congratulations to everyone on and offstage for a wonderful Wakakirri performance! " - Lauren Jimmieson, Wakakirri Ambassador.

This year we had 82 students in our Wakakirri team, our largest group yet! Huge thanks to everyone who has supported us and made Wakakirri possible this year. To all of our teachers and parents, Mrs Bingham and Miss Lord and our parent helpers Kerrie Jones, Kellie Fillis, Jason Emery and Ali Ritchie, we couldn’t have done it without you! And the biggest congratulations to our amazing cast and crew!
