Hampshire House Olympic Games
I am pleased to report that the 2024 Hampshire House games were officially declared the best games ever!
What a wonderful few weeks of Olympic celebrations we have enjoyed here at Hampshire House. It commenced with our very own mini-Olympic torch ceremony. We were very excited to have our Principal Jane Danvers light our Olympic Torch (which the children had so cleverly crafted) and we declared our games officially open. Our preschool children thoroughly enjoyed travelling around the school grounds on their Olympic scavenger hunt, collecting Olympic clues and fun facts, to bring back to our games. We had each nation represented and learnt many fun facts.
Did you know that the Olympic medals this year were made from pieces of the Eiffel Tower? Or that women athletes were involved for the first time ever at the 1900 Paris Olympic games and now in the 2024 Paris Olympics 50% of all Olympic athletes were women! Thank you to all our wonderful Kambala staff for sharing these fun facts and making this such a memorable time for our children.
It was then time for the games to begin and all the Hampshire children from Nursery upwards engaged in a series of events. These included track and field running races, sandpit long jump, hurdles, hoop relays and skipping races. The children also enjoyed bean bag shotput, gymnastics, balance beams and even rhythmic gymnastics.
A great time was had by all. We were very excited with Australia’s success at the Games, which we felt had to be celebrated by constructing our own medal tally.
We are all looking forward to watching the Paralympic games next. Go Australia!!!
