Cassia Transition News

M'LIS SCOTT & LETETIA POLYCHRONOPOULOS

In our Cassia garden, we are truly feeling like spring is springing! The Mulberry tree is growing its little berries, and is now covered with leaves. The garden is alive with birds and we’ve noticed that when we are quiet, they love to fly down and play in our garden. The daffodils are blooming golden and our spinach is growing! Spring is in the step of the children too! We are skipping, swinging and climbing the monkey bars. Everyone is working hard every day on their developing skills.

This term in Cassia, we have continued our focus during outside time on wood working which we began last term with whittling. This term we offer the older children the opportunity to make a wooden sword, and to be knighted. The making of a Cassia sword is hard work and takes time, the process cannot be rushed. This activity allows the children to develop skills including knowing how to use a clamp, learning to use a saw, hand drill and screw driver; persevering with sanding until the sword is smooth, taking calculated risks and seeing intentions through. Goal setting, will and determination are needed to complete the task. This project not only gives the children an opportunity to strengthen these important life qualities, but upon completion, there is so much satisfaction to be had – the end result of having worked so hard at something and done it to the best of your ability. This whole process of making the sword, sanding and waxing it, making a sheath and learning sword-fighting skills can take a whole term or longer.

Our Cassia 1 & 2 Spring Festival: just a reminder our Spring Festival will be held on Thursday 19th September from 8.30am to 10.30am. The children will go home with you after the festival.

The next day, Friday 20th, Garden day will be the last day of school. The end of term festivals are a wonderful culmination of 3 weeks of focus in the lead up to the actual day. The children are then so happy to invite you, their families, into have a little glimpse into their Cassia world!

Blessings upon your week,

M’Lis
