Sustainability Update

We have had a busy and sustainable start to the term!

Rose from Bunning’s came out to work with the Environment Leaders from Semester 1 and with the Gardening Club crew. Our garden was quite overgrown with weeds and our busy gardeners worked hard to pull all of the weeds from the school garden and to prepare the bed for new seedlings. We harvested some of our Winter crops such as spinach, snow peas, lettuce and kale. Bunning’s donated gardening equipment and lots of new plants to the school which we planted in the school garden. We developed great teamwork skills and got stuck into a busy morning of gardening. Rose was very impressed with how well our plants were growing and she is already working with Mrs. Doran to plan the next trip to St. Joseph’s!

If any members of our parent community wish to come along and help out in the garden please reach out to Mrs. Doran. Gardening Club runs each Monday from 11.05-11.45am. If parents are free to come along and help out please email Mrs. Doran at ldoran@sjelst.catholic.edu.au. All helpers are most welcome.

The new Environment leaders have been busy bees creating sustainable gifts for the Father’s Day stalls. The Environment leaders collaborated beautifully together to design and prepare the reusable tote bags using fabric paint. They also planted seeds and grew little climbing snow peas as a sustainable contribution to the Father’s Day stall. Well done!!

Joey, our St. Joseph’s School Mascot has been busy going from class to class to see which class is the most sustainable. Well done to 4C who last won Joey!! He even came along to art and gave it a go.

Our students have been working hard to keep the school clean and to achieve our current sustainability school goal of recycling our waste effectively and using the correct bins. A big shout out to the Prep students who always try their best to make the school more sustainable.
